Not seeing anyone beat Battle of Hastings.

Have fun, Sightseek!
Yeah, maybe Kent Desormeaux can go 8 wide on Hold Me Back this time and give Battle of Hastings a ridiculously perfect trip.

I have merely glanced at the PPs but I can tell you one thing- Battle of Hastings will not win again.

Battle of Hastings isn't much and begs to bet against here off that perfect trip...if Nicanor can do a bit of rating, he's definately good enough to win this race. Question is, whether he gets hammered at the windows like usual.

Laughable in respect to how overbet he was on the dirt or laughable in respect to the fact that some people can't look past his pedigree and see that he's a pretty good turf horse?

he's gonna be 2nd choice in a G1 (IMO) and thats laughable as to how NOT loaded this field is, and how his pedigree will still get him overbet

Granted this isn't exactly Artie Schiller vs. Kitten's Joy but this is a pretty good field from the standpoint of accomplishments and potential.

I think there's an excellent chance that races like the Secretariat, Jamaica and Hollywood Derby (G1 for 3YO on turf) will be won by horses in this field.

no, but when you're a race track and you prop your biggest race up with headlines like this:

Nicanor, A Full Brother to Barbaro, Headlines $750,000 Virginia Derby FieldShare
Today at 7:38am
A field of ten three year old horses entered Monday afternoon’s post position draw for the 12th running of the $750,000 Virginia Derby (Gr. II) at Colonial Downs. The Derby...

it kinda gets annoying, but hey thats just me

I think this isn't as obvious as it appears. BoH got a rail run but he was only on the rail from midturn on. To that point, he had been 3 wide on the 1st turn, and widest, no cover, on the backstretch (one of the Baze's was up, after all). In other words, a worse trip than SS. I believe the setup favored those with the pace that day and BoH made a very strong move to get the lead and then held on gamely. SS came back but Lime Rickey, the only other horse to run off the pace, was never a threat in the lane.

Now, I think the winner will probably come out of the Colonial Cup. The only 'other' horse that has a shot is Hold Me Back, assuming he takes to the turf.

I realize that SS looks like a nice trip betback. However, he almost certainly will not get the same trip. Obviously, he'll be able to stalk, in fact, he'll have to, as there's enough pace in the race where he shouldn't be able to sniff the front. There should be plenty of pace action/moves in the race and I suspect the VD will be won by an off the pacer. The race should set up well for Lime Rickey, Hold Me Back, and, yes, Battle of Hastings.
