Here's an interesting, hopeful article: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-a...d=bs:archive15

I agree, the GOP needs to start looking for leaders among strong, respected intellectuals and people with deep policy strengths.

Sarah Palin and her ilk are only useful for firing up and creating ignorant but angry mobs. Not what's needed in politics. Her ridiculous "rise up!" call to people over David Letterman has sealed her fate as never-ready-for-prime-time-voice in the GOP.

The GOP can reinvent itself by adhering, not to guns and religion, but to ideas.

if sarah palin is the future of the rep party, it should dismantle today. hell, they may as well trot out dan quayle while they're at it.

it seems right now that the face of the party is a whacky triumvirate of old men, ultra-right religious zealots, and the female equivalent of george bush. that's what palin is, really-the intelligence of george bush in an attractive package.

Sarah Palin isn't as smart as George Bush

I like McKinnon's political blog, I think he has good ideas. Here's another, "The Next Republican President"

i'm not impressed with the thought processes of either one of them, hence my comparison.

I think the majority of Americans back OBAMA's ideas on the big issues we face. That's not the same as being willing to pay for those ideas to be put into action. Realistically, I think people want to share the risk to make sure they aren't the ones who are financially devastated by a one-time health care nightmare. A lot of people who think they have health care insurance do go on to get financially devastated when their insurance has capped limits, or whatever. People want something done about that. I don't think most want all Americans to have access to good health care. I think they want all Americans to have access to emergency health care. Americans like to have people below themselves. There is no "look out for other members of the race" thinking that is present in the countries that are mainly made up of one ethnic group. So, I do see the country going back the other way. I think he will serve 2 terms(if he isn't shot or crippled by white trash,) but I think he will have lost control of both the Senate n' House when he leaves.

Emergency health care? Oh you mean the kind where hypochondriacs abuse on an epic scale? Yeah lets expand health care to all hypochondriacs...not just the ones on medicaid.

Anyone who enjoys going to see an overpaid parasite in a white coat is ill. You take away the money, and maybe 5% of them would be there for the love of helping sick people. I have no idea why anyone would go see them anymore than required by horrible pain, or disgusting disease. Oh, no I remember now. They have to go to beg them to refill a prescription. If they want to cut the price of health care, they could stop making people go in to have God o.k. every fkn bottle of anything useful. If you want to know why people go to the Doctor too much, it's because God usually doesn't put refills on the bottle of anything that might be remotely useful. It's not because the Doctor is doing anything delightful for their health in that room. Does anybody get refills on their bottles of antibiotics? You're lucky.
