Smile Royal Ascot Contest

A little early I know, but I am excited about it. Hopefully there will be a bit of interest in Royal Ascot this year with Cannonball and the handful of juveniles coming over from the States.

Here's the format I propose:

-2 picks per race, (plus alternates if you want)

-£40 on first pick, £25 on second pick

-£5 reverse exacta on first 2 picks

-you can select a bet of the day or nap which doubles the amount on your main bet to £80

any questions, please ask..

Royal Ascot is on from Tuesday 16th - Saturday 20th June.

Hello Brock,

Any chance for PPs and maybe a suggested site or two we might look at for additional info?

And last can you tell about the term "nap?"

Being in the States I'm only familiar with the eyes closed variety.

Stickhorse, I'm not Brock but hope I can answer your questions.

The best two websites to find PPs and general info are:

www.racingpost.com
www.attheraces.com

Both of them require you to be a member, but signing up is easy and completely free.

Attheraces is a great website, packed full of facts and figures and free videos of past performances, and a lot of good people giving their thoughts. During Royal Ascot, I imagine there will be a micro site (might already be up).

The term 'NAP' I believe is a very old term and has something to do with Napoleon. Anyway, a 'NAP' is your best bet. The same as a 'Lock' which is what I gather the Americans call their best bet, am I correct?

I am all over this.

Kev, I hope you are mentally prepared to take a beating from a Yank in your own backyard.

We should reverse an exatca on ourselves mate!

I'll be studying hard for this, and hopefully I'll get another massive exacta like I did a couple of years ago. A horse of Paul Webber's and Juniper Girl if I remember rightly

Safe trip, mate.

Interesting to see neither me or you have included Mastercraftsman at all. Maybe you should tell Johnny that the two best handicappers either side of the Irish Sea don't fancy him.

Yeah, he deserves to be favourite but defo not odds on! Imo, he hasn't run well when it's been quick ground so he has a bit to prove. I opposed henry in this last year and will be doing the same with master! Btw, plane still hasn't moved an inch!

I'll start a book:

1-5 plane delayed because they are having to get more alcohol on board
6-4 waiting for pilot to sober up
5-1 they can't decide whether it's a very short and wide runway or if they're facing the wrong way (I hope you laugh at that one!)
12-1 Johnny Murtagh kicking off after another passenger told him Mastercraftaman had no chance.

How about the Over/Under on total finish by the six Wesley Ward horses?

73 1/2 sounds about right to me.

Is Ward really doing the 2 races in 5 days thing again with Cannonball?

Andy, would you give a sqeak of a chance to any of them? If honor in peace lines up in the chesham over 7f on the Saturday, he'd be of interest simply because that race tends to be quite poor!

Other than Cannonball, who would need the rest of the field to fall down, I know very little about his horses. However, to expect some early season 2YO winners from the US, from a trainer not exactly known for getting his 2YOs to move forward, to go to Ascot and make even a reasonable showing seems like quite a longshot.

Look, I credit him for taking a shot and having some fun, but the odds seem slim. I'm still, however, jealous.....and wish I was there.

Default Tuesday Royal Ascot

I will list only one alternate. If my top pick should scratch please move my second selection to the first spot and my alternate will then become the second selection. Should my second selection scratch then move my alternate to the second spot. Should two of my horses scratch tough luck for me; I’ll be left with only one horse as top pick.

Race 1 - gladiatorus, main aim…… alternate: cesare

Race 2 - fleeting spirit, tax free……….alternate: amour propre

Race 3 - master craftsman, evasive………..alternate: intense focus

Race 4 - cansford cliffs, red jazz…………..alternate: xtension

Race 5 - keenes day,always bold…………..alternate: som tala

Race 6 - NAP mister manannan, the hermitage………alternate: star rover
