Discreet Cat has never run around two turns (one-turn 9f in Dubai) and the Breeders' Cup would be a bad place to try it for the first time. Bernardini is for this year and Discreet Cat is (if they can keep him together) for next year.

I think that Discreet Cat is the only horse in the U.S. that could stand a chance against Bernardini. I really love both of these horses, and don't know which one is the better of the two. With that being said, as fragile at DC is, I think it would not be a wise choice to run him in the Classic this year. I would much rather see him in the sprint. I think that they should save DC for the Classic division next year. I just don't think he is going to be ready to go 1 1/4 after two races at a mile or less. I would have rather seen him have a 1 1/8 mile race instead of the Jerome. It would make me feel a little better if they do run him in the Classic. As fragile as he is, running him in the Classic may be just a step too far. I want to see this horse around for awhile. I really don't think he will have a problem going the 1 1/4 miles though.

I just got the sad news about Electrocutionist because I have been a horse show all weekend. That is so sad. We've all taken a hard hit this year with deaths and injuries. I really loved this horse. He was a good one. May he rest in peace.

What proof do we have that Bernardini isn't it for next year ,either? The Sheikh seems awfully proud of him (as with all homebreds) and is having a grand old time hearing about his wins(his son certainly got a kick out of watching him in the Travers) .......Being a sportsman, he'd want to watch his own homebred horse become truly great, wouldn't you think? I'm not saying Bernardini won't be retired, but I also don't see it as being anything close to a sure thing.
