Why is this an "oh my god" moment? I don't get it. Godolphin has NO interest in buying up every horse out there. They don't desire having half the Derby field (or the full Derby field). Privately purchasing horses in the midst of their 2YO season DOES NOT buy you a Derby. They'll tell you that...it takes a bunch to get a horse to the Derby, let alone win - they do not buy these horses solely to win the Derby.

Half the people on this board love to hit-n-run Godolphin and I think you fundamentally misinterpret them. I can't help your interest in doing so.

The purse structure in Dubai, for the International Racing Carnival, is the most lucrative in the world. If anything, it's absurd that more American horsemen don't ship over. They'll pay a bunch, if not all, of your costs for shipping, your personal travel expenses (assuming you make a certain number of starts - reasonable), feed costs, etc. Of the 80 or so races at the Carnival this year, only three or four races DID NOT have a purse in excess of $110,000.

Mock if (or them) if you will, but those who aren't participating are simply missing out.

Maybe I am wrong but isn't the guy winning his own money?

The minute you think Sheikh Mohammed cares about winning purse money of races anywhere, you've misunderstood his intentions.

The point in my earlier post is this...Godolphin is spearheading the campaign to create a racing paradise. It isn't just about winning some races - sure, that matters (not the money, but the sport of it) and creating a mammoth breeding organization. There will be a day and time when Godolphin dramatically slows their auction purchasing. It's coming.

or the theme from Jaws.

No. They choose to not name races after horses who finished second in their only start over the track.

How about a race called 'The SILVER CHARM". Purse of $2,000.000 restricted to privately purchased horses that didn't win the Derby.

I wish success for all of those who race horses in Dubai and ship out and attempt to carry on their successes following those runs, Godolphin included.

Everything that's written there about the International Racing Carnival is true.
