If there is a rider in the game who's shown his timing is his strong suit, it's Leparoux. From back in 2006 when he rode Gorella to victories in the Just a Game and Beverly D to last fall at SA when he rode Forever Together perfectly, never panicking despite the pace being a dawdle, the guy finishes well.

He's a very, very good rider.

The ride of the year could've been Leparoux' on Winter View. In a ridiculously slow paced race, he sits chilly, last, inside, behind horses, doesn't swing her wide on the turn, coming between horses, and, thus, doesn't move her prematurely. By letting the others run on the turn, he's able to last move them, but last move them correctly, when they straighten out. As such, he runs down a field that ran a 27.78 1st split and a 26.00 2nd split, etc..

This race should be used as an example of how TIMING of MOVES is superordinate (a bigger set) to FRACTIONS (pace of race).

That race came up pretty slow figure wise. I hope to play against that horse in the future.

He's patient, a good trait to have on turf courses. While I agree he is a very good turf jockey the patience sometimes doesn't work on dirt as well. To me he's from the Pat Day school of riding, he'll give you heart palpitations when you are on him, right now I don't know who the best rider is, I'm not sure he is to me yet. I'll agree he times the wire as well as anyone, however the sense of pace, making all the right moves in the body of races, timing that Jerry Bailey once exhibited once in his career, I haven't seen anyone today with those qualities.
