But he mentioned that the fields weren't that good in his argument of why Gomez made the wrong choice between Dunkirk and Pioneer and in comparing the fields the two of them have beaten, that makes the statement rather stupid.

Please....he barely lost to Quality Road on a speed favoring track. QR had a MUCH easier trip that day, and Dunkirk still gave him a run for his money. POTN beat IWR, who is a very nice horse, no doubt. Is he better than Quality Road, not so sure. Papa Clem beat an injured horse who was not gonna get the distance at OP, and behind that a bunch of real bad horses.

In my opinion Gomez chose a horse who is unproven on dirt and will be a question mark getting the distance. That's where I believe he made the mistake.

Hey, I hope the betting public hammers POTN,IWR, and Papa Clem. That way I will get a good price on Dunkirk.

I think if you had been able to make this argument to Anderson and Gomez, they likely would have landed on Dunkirk. I doubt they considered any of the above.

Ok genius. Where does Gomez plan on riding most of the year? If you can figure that out then the next question. Who has a bigger presence in that area ?

Ya think that had something to do with his decision ?

Who cares? The point is that you said POTN had beaten "horrendous" fields this year. A statement you later retracted.

As usual, the longer you run your mouth, the more you confuse yourself.

As for quality of fields , who knows? They haven't raced long enough to make that decision and with so many preps all over the country the talent gets divided everywhere until they finally meet in the Triple Crown and beyond.

His last 2 races were against horrendous fields. I stand by that genius.

Gomez is coming to NY after the Derby and staying into Belmont in the Fall. He may go to California for the Oak Tree meet. He will be in Saratoga.

This will make for an interesting jockey colony, at least at Belmont, with Ramong sticking around as well.

andy - i don't want to get in a spat with you but i just have a few points feel free to bury me:

we are now 4 months into they year - isnt it safe to assume that at a minumum GG will ride more in California this year than NY

I assume he won't be in the winter meet at Aqu in early nov - dec

i assume he will be in Califorina those 2 months , that gets him to 6 months in So Cal

if he spends any other time in Cali won't that mean that the majority of his racing days will be spent is So Cal , and since Bob has more horses in So Cal than Todd didn't that factor into the decision on whom to ride in the derby?

I think it is obvious that Jon White had something to do with the decision.

Actually Gomez has been in Keeneland most of April. So majority of time would be outside of California. Not to split hairs

Ya Think?!

Didn't Baffert ship many of his horses to Saratoga last year because he was unhappy with (I believe) the Delmar surface last year?

Dunkirk is going to take a ton of money and he is going to need EVERYTHING to go perfectly. I question Dunkirk's ability to get 1 1/4, especially with the way he looked after the FL derby...looked like he was going to collapse. I will admit though...he's a game SOB...he kept on trying.

How do you figure Dunkirk will take a lot of money? Based on Pletcher's record in the derby ?

While will he need everything to go perfectly? Not sure what you are getting at. I think the other 19 horses would also need things to go their way to win.

What are the qualifications to have a "blog" on there besides a keyboard and a pulse rate?
