As long as people make public policy based on their religious beliefs, then it's part of the political discussion. You say THE MORMON was dismissed and considered non-viable? Well, if you wanted to buy some alcohol to drink at home, and were inconvenienced by Mormons, then you have a right to say you don't want to vote for him (simply because he's Mormon.) It's their own fault for making laws(everyone must live with) based on their own religion.

i'm not one who said romney wasn't a viable candidate. i was using him as an example to illustrate that catholics are not the only ones seeing criticisms of their religion.

and no, catholics do not agree with all the churches teachings-read any subject in which the catholic church weighs in, and you'll see that not all members agree~ the subjects of pre-marital sex, abortion rights, same sex marriage, and birth control for starters.

i never got that criticism tho. i'd imagine every religion has the same type of occurrence with followers not agreeing with everything their church stands for. it's why you have so many different churches now, with offshoots springing up seemingly every day. but it seems with the catholic church, their members remain for the most part.

Dell's point was that criticizing his religion was the only one it's P.C. to criticize. If that's true(highly questionable,) my point is that it's mainly because the members of that religion often agree with the criticisms of it.

The two examples you gave aren't (to me) examples that are considered P.C.

i just disagree that it's only catholics who get criticized. and i do agree that it's members of the church who partake in the criticizing. there are high profile democrats who probably add to the mix, since they are very vocal about not agreeing with their churches teachings.

I'll tread lightly here...but the thing about religion in general that gets me..is that they all think they are right!!..

So...assuming ANY of them are "right"...that means all the others are wrong...Isn't that hilarious? I can't imagine putting my life principals and in some cases, forcing them on others, when there is a 90% chance that I am wrong. Religion should be a highly personal, faith based preference...so why do they insist on infringing on other's territory?

Well, fear of the unknown(death) is one reason. I know why they bother others so much. It's Double Points:

1)They help their maker turn a heathen into something of worth. They get points.

2) They save you (cuz you aren't smart enough to help yourself.) They get you some points.

One of my best friends is soft "born again"...he has dedicated himself to Christ and says that I will go to hell if I don't. So, I ask...if Manson dedicates himself to Christ, he's cool?
