To compare Baffert and Pegram's quest for a Derby to IEAH buying a candidate at the 11th hour is wrong. There's a HUGE difference between buying a horse at auction and bringing them forward from Day 1 and buying a graded stakes winner in late March.

I see no issue with these bozos dropping large amounts of money on horses at the 11th hour. Most of the time they are being bought from horse people, people that would throw that money back into the industry anyways. I agree they are douchnozzles but what can be wrong with them overpaying for horseflesh to people that 9 times out of 10 are going to put it back into the industry, or already put that much into the industry.

I completely agree and I think most would as well. The thing that makes most people cringe is the thought of Iavarone and the IEAH posse plastered all over the Derby telecast and the entire scene.

No doubt the gigantic prices paid by groups like IEAH and Godolphin have changed lives in a very positive way. That, of course is the flipside to saying, "Greedy b.astards trying to buy their way to the top."

Exactly. Only thing was he didn't do that half a dozen times. Salman did that War Emblem thing the one time. Others like Point Given he bought much sooner.

I could be wrong but I believe he DROPPED DEAD later that year; so we'll never know if it was a 'one time' thing. I'm thinking he might've gone back for more the next year.

You know how it is: if you don't HAVE a BIG DICK, you get an IMPLANT (cause you just need the biggest one around).

This is the way to go these days: from the Yankees, to the Sheiks and IEAH.

Well considering he was hardly a newbie, I'd say he tended not to do that and there was a particular reason he got Derby crazy beyond the norm--he thought he had a TC winner (as did a lot of people waiting for the anointed one to simply start the 3 races on his way to Secretariat, Jr. status) who had a weird flop just prior and in that race of all things. Since he then had a Derby winner in War Emblem when Point Given didn't get it done, he probably got the 'gotta win one right now dammit' out of his system. Couldn't prove it but then again, don't have to. The only person I need to convince is me and I'm sold. I'm sure he'd like to've won another but his catharsis was taken care of.
