Sadly, crack New Zealand racecaller and Australia native Darren Tyquin died in a car accident today in his adopted homeland where he called some great races with his strong baritone.

This article mentions another accident, but covers DT's incident towards the end. I'm sure there will be much more written in the coming days.

I had just spoken with him yesterday while online and have appeared on his radio show a bunch of times talking about American and Dubai racing.

He had the thrill of his life just a week ago when a filly he owned, Missdaflight, landed the come-from-behind victory in her debut race as the longest shot in the field. If anyone logs in to the site below, you can watch the replay and hear an announcer call his own horse home at a big price with his friend, jockey Patrick Holmes, aboard. I was told that Holmes was the passenger in the car with him during the accident and was injured but not too seriously.

Race 5 is the one.

I know he will be missed.

Wow. Such sad news.

I didn't know him in real life... only on another forum a while back... a really sweet guy who would answer silly questions and had a great sense of humor.

Prayers to his family and friends. I hope he didn't suffer.

Just very sad news.

Absolutely terrible news.

I worked with him a few times when I worked at Radio Trackside, he was an absolute pleasure to work with.
