Saw a trailer for Star Trek around Thanksgiving....isn't supposed to be out until around Derby time.

Talked to a guy who said that watchman wasn't that great. Save your money and wait for the dvd to come out.

Being the comic buff that I am, I saw Watchmen opening night. Other than being amused at Carla Gugino playing a character 3 times her age and the misusing of Hendrix's/Dylan's classic All Along the Watchtower, I thought the movie was long and confusing, filled with an overusage of violence.

This movie pales in comparison to a classic like Blade Runner, in the hands of the right director this could have been a very good movie, it fails on so many levels, that an intelligent comic serial fan cannot help but be dissapointed. Adam Goode as Veidt...? That's believable? Carla as a 60 year old...no chance.

Honestly I think the movie tried to be too clever, atleast the chicks are hot...but that will only keep you awake for the first 30 mins, the rest of the movie is a sleepfest.

Now strange opinion, because I don't at all enjoy comic movies, or superhero movies, or anything along those lines, but I had an opportunity to go see the midnight showing for free, so I took it.

The three people I was with (all who enjoy this kind of movie) walked out disappointed, having hated it.

Amazingly enough, while acknowledging that it was a bit long, I found it fascinating. Maybe it's because I had no background on it at all and just watched the movie for the sake of watching the movie, but with very few portions excepted, I really enjoyed it.

I read the Graphic Novel and thought the material was an excellent chance to make a unique comic style movie, if you have a chance to pick it up I recommend it, perhaps that is why I was dissapointed.

I don't mind if a film is almost 3 hours long as long as the movie delivers a provocative story. I refer back to Blade Runner as a movie that provokes a tremendous amount of thought, that has many memorable scenes and is filled with terrific performances. Perhaps it is unfair to compare Watchmen to a classic like Blade Runner, but I had alot of trouble getting into this movie or the characters as much as I tried to. I believe it comes down to subpar casting, cinematography, musical score, and direction. Case in point, when a character with the depth like a Rorschach comes along you try to get him to do what the Joker did for the Dark Knight. That potential arc was never realized, something I wish was explored more.
