Default Nicanor improves dramatically

Zito's million dollar disappoinment wasn't in my bet but neither was Nicanor and it cost me the Superfecta

1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th

o-well didn't pay enough to cry about
just know how much everyone loves

Nicanor

I'm tired of making fun of fans of the sport, fans that follow particular horses. They are entitled to be here, too.

Nicanor broke well and did look impressive in the stretch making up ground on the winner after being passed. It was a dramatic turnaround from his first race -- I imagine Jose Lezcano will now keep the mount.

He should be favored in his next race, which should generate even more publicity for this horse and for the sport in general.

The chart made me happy but thanks for the bit about how he finished after being passed. I think down the road he'll maybe not live up to Barbaro (really even Barbaro himself has been surpassed by the legend of "Barbaro" and I say this as a big fan) but certainly the promise of a Dynaformer son with a dam as lovely as La Ville Rouge. There's blacktype 'in them thar hills.' I'm sure Matz and the Jacksons are proud of him.

Don't make fun of them anymore if that's the case.

Considering he was beaten a length in a race that went extremely fast - faster than an older male stake at the same distance - I will go out on a limb and say he will be favored next time.

A big huge favorite.

I didn't cash

Nicanor had a nice run, for sure. Set quick fractions and battled back in the stretch, little more distance will do him well. Wonder if Lezcano keeps the mount?

Video and pictures are up on the Bloodhorse blog along with quotes from Matz and Jose Lezcano. http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/nican...nd-effort.aspx

They said it might take a few more races before they can know "what we've got here" which I assume means if he'll be able to move very far up the ranks or not. Doesn't mean he wouldn't win the next one, just that even if he did, it still wouldn't show you all that he's capable of. I assume that also means trying against winners and then stakes horses. I think he's quite promising and quite a nice looking lil guy. It's fun to watch them learn because it helps highlight the fact that these aren't just racing machines where you press a button.

For those that haven't heard, supposedly Prado was too sick to leave Florida on the plane so I doubt he'd have felt up to riding Nic if he couldn't even just lay there in a seat for a few hours. I hope he feels better soon. Maybe he got to see the race at least online.

Will be interesting to see what they give Antitrust. He ran 2nd, 3/4th a length back of the winner San Valentino at the same condition, same distance, 3 races after Nicanor's performance.

San Valentino got home in a fifth slower than did Custom for Carlos; 1:23.46 vs. CoC 1:23.25

Not saying that 94 for Nic's effort isn't right, but it certainly seems high for a place effort in a msw race

I was never impressed by Nicanor and have had a doubtful, pessimistic attitude toward him being a stakes horse.

However I was very surprised and impressed from his run yesterday.
Here was a horse who is bred for 10 furlongs and he was running a fast extended sprint in only his second start. He actually looked good doing it.

It would be great to see him stretch out and maybe run a longer route over that tiring Keeneland track for his next start. I think his pedigree would then be to his advantage, while most of his rivals want no part of a route over a tiring surface. If the owners were a little crazy they might even play with the idea of the Blue Grass Stakes. Maiden or not, he is never going to get another chance to run for 750K against mostly dirt miler 3yos, on a synthetic-turf surface going 9 furlongs! lol
