Here's an, after the fact, example of what I consider a perfect cutback situation. Today's 5th at PHA.
Bonheur

two back, he's sets the pace in a 2turn mile and collapses (in a wipeout)

last out, 8.5F, he's chasing the pacesetters, is the only to move early, when they're still strong, and then backs up late, in a race that goes 1-2 around the track

today, he had the rail and figured to get a trip behind faster horses early going 7F.

He wasn't fast enough to contest early, sat perfectly inside/behind all the way around the track, and got up at the wire.

What does the number to the right of the horses name/number indicate on the side of the graph. I think I have an idea but not at all sure. Thanks.
