I love all you people who think you know everything about the world. I have been in 16 countries on 4 different continents. Most of you probably have never even lived more than a week outside the country.

I am a strict isolationist. I don't believe a country $10 trillion in debt that will be running a $2 trillion deficit in 2009 should give a nickel to neanderthal countries like Egypt and Israel. We should never have spent a nickel in Iraq either. This entire part of the world is still living in the stone ages.

Let's get down on our knees 5x a day to pray to God and then leave little girls in buildings to burn because they don't have on the right "headgear".

Or let's not mix milk and meat because God doesn't like it especially when we don't cover our head with a piece of cloth.

These are the type of wackos running countries. Ridiculous.

Should we really be surprised these crazy people have been killing each other for thousands of years.
You are right. We should just pull out all of our intelligence gatherers and our military presence from the region. Let them go lawless for a decade or so, build up another Afghanistan or two. That'll end well.

The fact remains Chris, that we are not the only country in the world believe it or not. You, being Christopher Columbus, the world traveler, should realize this. Sometimes the crap that happens abroad has as much affect on the US as the domestic stuff, sometimes more. Are we to just look the other way??? I sure as $hit hope we wouldnt.

Last I checked it was our giving weapons to the Afghan army to fight the Russians that allowed the problems in Afghanistan to come about.

Learn something about history before making moronic statements.

The US created the Taliban with its ridiculous interventionist policies.

I'm sure that they would have been fine citizens of the USSR.

Yeah, last I checked the country of Afghanistan is virtually impossible to take over. If you think differently, go spend a few weeks there and explore the terrain. It is an impossible country to take over, which the idiots in our government are about to find out. Our intelligence agencies have said for decades that Afghanistan is a dead end for anyone that tries to occupy it.

Do us a favor. You do it. Enjoy it and stay there.

or, you could look at our aid to the afgans as one tool in our fight to win the cold war. you do know we won that, right?

We didn't need to give aid to Afghanistan and we still would have won the cold war. Afghanistan is impossible to take over.

Go watch a movie like Charlie Wilson's War and you will see how the US never wanted the Afghans to win the war, they just wanted the Russians bogged down there.

And you still don't address the fact that our aid to Afghanistan created the Taliban. I guess you just like to look past that part.

you're barking up the wrong tree if you think i will go watch a movie to get an actual, usable history lesson. do you think the movie jfk was real too? and i would disagree that we didn't need to give aid. if the ussr was for something, generally it would be bad for the u.s. you do remember that we were their sworn enemy?
we also backed iraq when they fought iran-that probably gives you the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.

The US built up Saddam. And thousands of members of the military died in a pointless war to get rid of him.

I love all you people who have nobody in the military in your family that love to use the military like it is your little game of chess.

yes, we did help saddam. it probably kept iran-no, it did keep iran from becoming a threat all those years ago-the threat it's trying to become now. i disagree with what gb2 did-removing saddam strengthened iran, in that respect it was a huge mistake. hopefully oil prices will remain low-as without that resource, iran can't afford to back up their rhetoric.

I don't think it was pointless to get rid of him, but I don't know if we should of been the ones doing it(especially the way it was sold to us.) I totally disagreed with us staying there, and trying to put bibs on people acting like savages. Now that was indeed a pointless waste of American lives. That's what happens when a guy is stupid enough to think everybody wants freedom. They don't. They want hardcore religion and/or hardcore ruthless leaders. That's why they can't wait for us to get the hell out. We don't satisfy their needs.

Kind of like you and my question of what we are to do as a country if and when the Israelis and Palestinians blow each other off the map??

Sit back and finish off our cheddar fries?

I will gladly answer your question. We would do nothing. It is not our problem. We didn't have a problem watching millions in Africa kill each other. Why should we care about these two countries blowing each other up. The history of the world is full of things that this happening. It is natural selection. The crazy people perish eventually because they refuse to evolve. And countries based on religion are just that, crazy.

Now answer my question.

I suppose our aid to Iraq created Saddam and our aid to Iran created the ayatollahs too?

You said this while looking into a mirror and thought it would be a good one, right?

We gave the weapons to the Afghans??? Get out!! Thanks for the history lesson.

makes you wonder what chris would do if he was walking down the street and witnessed a guy attacking a girl. i'm betting he'd pull his hat down a bit lower, stick his hands in his pockets, begin to whistle and act nonchalant, while pretending not to see what was happening. after all, it's not chris' problem. people get attacked every day, why should he care?
there were isolationists back during WW2 as well..
fact remains, altho the 'majority' chris proclaims to speak for may feel we should remain locked in our own little world, the realities of these situations is quite different. anyone other than uneducated horse trainers (j/k cannon, i'm cracking wise because of a certain remark above somewhere) would know that you don't pretend to not see what's going on, especially when it's your allies taking the heat. thankfully for this country, we were the recipient of aid back when we needed it. and now, altho we may not be quite as rich as we thought we were, we can certainly take care of our own, as well as those abroad who are less fortunate. especially when it's one of the lone democracies in that area. we have influence, and have every reason to use it-always wisely hopefully.

I would help the girl because my actions would actually mean something.

What is going to happen in the Middle East to change anything.

Please tell me, and while you are at it tell every Secretary or State and President this country has ever known. None of them have done a thing except throw billions of dollars into the cesspool of a region.
