I sometimes do the following..
when there is a strong favorite at low odds that I agree could well roll, I will single that horse in a pick 3 and then be able to go wider in the next two legs while still keeping the ticket price low. Then I will exacta box 3 horses at at better prices in the race that I think could run at a decent return, sometimes with the fav. So, the exacta may become a saver bet, but if the favorite wins, my total investment, under $20, should still be more than covered if the pick 3 comes through.
I need to do more W WP betting for horses between 3/1 and 5/1......but for some reason I'm hooked on pick 3's and have had some nice payoffs this year..  good luck.. I/L
