Cecil's 2,000 Guineas hopeful Wingwalker dies By Turia Tellwright3.42PM 2 DEC 2008 HIGHLY-REGARDED juvenile Wingwalker collapsed and died on Monday morning. The Henry Cecil-trained colt jumped to the fore of the 2009 2,000 Guineas betting after two impressive starts, but subsequently disappointed in the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes in October and was consequently a general 33-1 shot for the Classic. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said the two-timewinner was thought to have suffered a heart attack. "Wingwalker collapsed and died during a canter yesterday morning," Grimthorpe confirmed on Tuesday. "We have yet to have the results of the post-mortem but we can presume he suffered a heart attack. It's a huge loss as Henry rated him very highly and we thought he might have been very special. "It will be felt very hard throughout the organisation." |
