You play Penn often? Got back into state from Ohio in August, just started playing again. Went up to the track lst time last week...damn! total makeover...huge casino, hardly seems like a track! Stopped by the OTW tonight to bet race six....much better, hardly anyone there...and not snowing here!

Except for a few grade 1's, Penn will be the only track I play for awhile, trying to get back into things. Think I'll stick to YouBet and the OTW though...no use going up as it's too frantic for me to concentrate.

Same with Penn and Charles Town....before Penn National bought Charles Town and slots were voted in, they were running for $2000 purses, now you seldom see a race under $10,000. Same story at Penn...the lowest purse there now is about $96-9800...big improvement for trainers and owners. Horse quality has improved slightly but still shippers improve 10-20 lengths as a rule.

I was hoping they'd redesign the oval but looks like it will remain as is! CT races are tough to handicap so I generally stay clear. Then again, I never had a lot of luck at River Downs either.

It's funny that horses running for $5,000 tags are catching overall purses around or north of $9,200 at MTR. I'm not blaming anyone, the horseman must love it...but on their way home every night they should kneel down and pray to the dime slot machines

i agree, non-casino base trks, will have a hard time keeping up purses over the
near and long term, some may say this is pessimistic, however, after this bleak- economic period is over this generation will carry on like the generation
did after the depression, people will change their spending habits, even gamblers.
