If you were Coa, considering you broke from the rail, with the short run into the turn, with a horse with tactical speed, what would you have done?
all the jockey tactics I happen to know are the armchair variety. If he could have let the fools on the pace go, and got the horse to settle back 3- 5 off the pace along the rail...
even if it left him with some work to have to fight his way back outside, I think it would have been optimal. Can't say whether that scenario would even have been possible

I don't know if it was coa's fault or the horse or just bad racing circumstance but the one thing i have an opinion on was that holding back and making one run was the best way to race that day.

Come on.....his rides on Stardom Bound and Zenyatta were fantastic. It's very very hard taking a closer to the back of the pack vs a inferior field and then looping by the hopeless bunch to win going away.

Anyone catch this quote from Iavarone?

Asked what impressed them the most about the filly, Iavarone said: “Her hip and shoulder. She's a big, beautiful filly and we know she can run. I think Rick is going to help her out. Hopefully, we can have a really big campaign (in 2009).”

Huh? "Rick is going to help her out?" How's that exactly? Is there something wrong with her that needs the horsemanship genius of Dick Jr.? While a move up would certainly be typical, I'm curious how Dutrow can have her 'better' than Chris Paasch has had her... Iavarone talks like this is some hopeless plug that needs that ol' Dutrow magic to be turned into a real racehorse... ala Benny the Bull or Kip Deville. Amazing knack for always saying the wrong thing.

Either that, or he's well aware of Paasch's record with 3yos.

Sounds like Bobby Frankel will be doing most of the helping anyways...

Methinks Paasch is on Stevie's protected list.
