arghhhhhhhhh! the whole election locally ticked me off. they wanted a rule that only married couples could adopt or have foster kids. no 'cohabitating' couples. they said from the get go that their main target was homosexuals-they passed ( i say 'they' because i sure didn't vote for it!) a constitutional amendment here a few years ago on marriage only being one man, one woman. so, since homosexuals can't marry here, they cannot adopt or be foster parents. i had an issue with that--for example, if two women are raising a child as theirs, what if the legal mother passes away? the second mother has no rights for that child at all. how would that affect her and her child? i can't imagine. also, only one mother could be the legal parent, as now the other has no recourse for adoption. what if they were to end their relationship? what recourse would the second parent have for visitation? and what about the fact that there already are far more foster kids than foster parents? how does this help? i told my husband that all those who voted for this crap, who say they want what's best for kids....well, what about all the folks down here (and it happens a ton here, it's insane) who run around on their spouse, marry and divorce multiple times, etc? and they care about childrens well-being? when? you'd have to be here and see what goes on to believe it. i liken these towns around her to peyton place. only worse.

we moved here about 14 years ago. it has it's good points, and it's bad-which is much like everywhere i'd imagine. oh, did i mention that i live in a dry county? i sometimes call it the land that time forgot. tony and i pretty much keep to ourselves! people think we're heathens, since we don't go to church. there are over 100 in this area, it's hilarious. i think there are so many so that those remarrying can avoid all the ex-spouses church. only nevada outdoes arkansas in divorce rate.

I understand that unfortunately. I just dont understand how you can tell people not to raise children. If there was a Prop 8 saying blacks can only sit at the back of the bus... or a Prop 8 saying blacks cant adopt children.... this whole country would be outraged. But throw in a different type of discrimination and this BULLSHIT passes. ![]() |

EXACTLY! Gays are the last group (well maybe Muslims now) that you can discriminate against where ever and when ever you want and people agree with you. Its like the religious nuts and repubs last piece of bigotry that they feel justified on. How ANY black person could vote YES on Prop 8 is beyond me! They should know all about equal rights and support it. This makes me sick. |
