I'm really looking forward to watching the Melbourne Cup broadcast on HRTV. I thoroughly enjoyed last year's edition. I can only hope the powers that be at ESPN, and any other entity that produces live thoroughbred racing for TV in this country, will watch and learn. The Aussies do it right. It's about the horses, jockeys, and the betting down under. My favorite part of the broadcast is when the track announcer announces the "stars of the day", and introduces the Cup jockeys, like we announce the lineups for a World Series game.

The locals don't look particularily strong this year though they should be respected, I'm more partial to the Europeans and Kiwi's this year.

Melbourne cup is way hard to have a serious punt as you have overseas horses which are hard to line up against the local lot, but this year i have to say i agree with

So im Going for a" Boxed Trifector" which means 3 can finish in any order so long as its the top 3 so im going 1,3,5 to win the

I think the key here is the weather, if it does rain as forecast, Septimus has a chance, but I still think the weight will stop him.

Surprisingly, of the Euros, I think Bauer has the best chance, he looked solid in his warm up race and looks to be thriving down under, he'll be a lovely price as well..

Mad Rush style will mean he will probably find traffic problems but he is way too short.

Honolulu is very interesting but he is drawn too wide and could be sent to the slaughter to aid Septimus..

Alessandro Volta is a big monkey of a horse, first time blinkers may help, but I doubt it.

Profound Beauty is by the dangerous Weld, but I would be shocked if she was good enough and she is a truly terrible price.

Of the others, Zipping and Master O'Reilly have the class and pace to be there of thereabouts at the end. But the Kiwis look to have a few Aces as well..

Bauer / Zipping / Master O'Reilly
