The speed hurts Bluegrass Cat more so than Bernardini. Bernardini doesnt need the lead, not did he want it in the Jim Dandy. He just inheirted the lead because the other horses sucked so bad. Bernardini will win by 5. I dont know why people are excited about this race. I mean we have a good field and I love that, but Bernardini handles this field with ease.

I agree, the post is great for Bernardini, he can sit off the cheap speed of Kip Deville and High Cotton, Bluegrass Cat has to try to get the ju8mp on Bernardini, even so, I don't think he is in the same zip code, he's running for second, maybe, Ministers Bid could just as easily be second as well.

Bernardini will win because he is God's horse. No horse can compare to this noble steed.

The owners and trainers of the competition are fools. Why enter their horses into this race to face certain defeat? The great Bernardini will rise to the challenge and lead the chants of ALLAH AKBAR when he enters the winners circle.

Take heed.

Yep. It's Bernardini 1st, Bluegrass Cat 2nd (like the derby and belmont) and the rest are fighting for 3rd.

Remember how easy Showing Up went by Kip? Wait until you see Bernardini make it look even easier. Dont blink or you might miss it.

Ya and the jockey got criticized. Then the next race the horse goes slower and folds tent as the favorite. Peculiar race. Peculiar horse. I dont see how he changes Bernardini's result in any way. Castellano is too smart to chase him and this horse isnt nearly good enough to pull a theft job. The only horse this may help out is High Cotton, who potentially could get a golden stalking trip and the first run on the rest of them.

There is no doubt that BC has got to stay in front of Bern. No way does BC pass Bern in the stretch.

How can you say that?

When has Bernardini had to fight back and hold someone off, we know he has talent, but does he have heart? That hasn't been answered yet and anyone that says he does is a fool and should take up another sport. Bernardini won the Preakness after Barbaro broke down, Brother Derek getting hurt, and Sweetnorthernsaint being over the top. After that he got a easy lead and ran away. Can anyone deny this? Please tell me something different. I like this horse, but you are insane to annoint him anything other than what has happened, until he proves it...

Bluegrass Cat has the advantage if he is in front for the very same reason as we dont know if Bernardini has heart or the desire to pass a stuborn horse. BC has some heart and will be tough to pass (even for Bernardini). If Bernardini is in front, I think he is just too quick and more taltented that BC. For Bernardini, it isnt a question of heart because I doubt BC could catch him and make him fight. Now, if BC is in front, does Bernardini have the desire to go on by a stubborn horse. This is why BC has got to be in front of Bernardini.

Cheap speed is a non-factor. Kip is a nothing horse and will have no effect on this race. There is no way his presence should affect any other horse. They can let him go out there and get 15 in front if he wants to because he's shown that he can't finish even when running shorter distances so he'll come back to them here too.

Kip Deville totally changes the complexion of the race. . .

So are you saying that pace has nothing to do with the outcome of a race?

froom Bloodhorse:

While Albertrani said little has changed with Bernardini in the last few months, that is not the case with Bluegrass Cat.

"Physically, he's a stronger horse than he was in the Derby and Belmont," Pletcher said. "He's carrying more weight and his energy level has been unbelievable since the Haskell. I'm hoping that's a positive sign that he's bounced out of the Haskell well and 20 days is enough recuperation time."

Barbaro gained like a hundred pounds or so before the Derby. Looks like BGC might just be a late bloomer.

I meant no offense to anyone about the field size, ie slotdirt etc..

Strictly an observation and opinion. I love a full field, say 9 plus loading in the gate. Quality is not the issue in the Travers of course.

Short fields don't mean great races though. That CompUSA Dixie on the Preakness undercard this year was stellar.

Agreed. I was waiting to read a post like this. This race sets up for Minister's Bid.
