I heard Canada is one of the most business friendly countries, and has a top 3 type standard of living. I don't think you could stand for their personal income taxes though. There is no country that works well with the Republican Recipe (low business regulation, low taxes of all types, and low Gov't spending.) That doesn't work, but keep pushing that crap.
You cant compare countries. 80% of canada is not even inhabitated. Scandinavia is closer to a state. I am still waiting on how raising taxes helps workers accross the board. Please dont bring in people who make $7 an hour because unskilled labor will never do exceedingly well simply because they are unskilled and easily replaced.

You said yourself that Corporations are not interested in the welfare of workers. You can't mandate that they "help" workers(something I doubt you give a s-h-i-t about...so, it's an odd question.) So, the only way to help workers is to get some of the profits back in taxes that go for what you call "handouts" like social security, medicare etc. I think you're saying that some higher paid workers are hurt by higher taxes. Maybe, but they would have a house full of people to take care of if there were no Social Security, and Medicare. I'd be having to pretend I care about what story my mom would be telling me. She'd probably be living with me(she was just a worker.)

how does medicare and social security help a worker? and i would remind you that those aren't handouts, the govt supposedly takes your money all the years you work, and gives it back when you retire. so, how does social security help me? the social security that's supposed to be broke by the time i retire? so, if i never see a dime back when i retire, that i've been paying into the system all these years--how will it help if it's not there later? i guess tho that i'm just supposed to be happy to be paying for others to get it now, and i'm just supposed to suck it up and get over it when it's done away with when it's my turn to get my money back. now, those two programs might help those who don't work...but i don't know of anyone working that it helps right now. all it's doing is going out, with no prospect of it coming back like they say, since they also say it'll be gone.
i think a lot of this argument comes down to who has a dependant vs an independant mindset. you're obviously someone who thinks people can't be self reliant, and that the oh so helpful govt is there to pick up the slack. i'm someone who thinks i can take care of myself-which i have always done, regardless of how little or how much i was making throughout the years. since i've never been on any kind of govt handout, i guess i just don't understand the whole subsidy thing. i subsidize my life, no one else does. i guess it's silly of me to expect everyone else to do the same.

You really sound like a dumb hillbilly every instance that you bring up Social Security. This is indeed when you are most entertaining. The Dems you dislike are going to protect this program. So, you're misinformed if you think it will go away. Trying to explain shared risk to a super-sassy self-centered cowgirl is pretty much useless. Most these things you hate came about to solve a serious problem. You want to go back to having those serious problems in society. We have already been there. You don't have to guess what it would be like. It would be bad.

where did i say i hated social security? what i hate is the thought that what i'm paying for won't be there-that's the spiel i've heard for years. of course, like much of what pols say, you have to take it with a grain of salt-it's part of their scare tactics to convince folks that the sky is falling, but if you vote for ____,they'll save you. as for dems i dislike, find where i said i disliked a dem for being a dem. i'd love to see it. but i'm sure both blanche lincoln and mark pryor would thank me for my vote-regardless of what some total stranger from a message board had to say about me.

thing is, i don't want serious problems, which is why i don't understand both candidates wanting a tax decrease on individuals, as well as increased spending. that only grows the deficit. that growth in our debt makes our already bad situation increasingly untenable. i fully understand the need for things our society provides for those in need. but before we add to the pile we need to pay for what we've already obligated ourselves to.
i live within my means, you say you do as well. so why can't our govt do the same? probably because our society is made up mostly of people in debt up to their eyeballs-and our govt is made up of too many folks who think that's not a problem, so our govt runs in the same slipshod way.

Well, the main reason is because Republicans always want to give the rich a tax break. When Clinton was in, we weren't in debt like this. Bush came in and had that tax break for the rich. We've been going further n further n' debt ever since. They would rather borrow money from China than tax C.E.O. types to get it. This 700 billion they are gunna use to bail out bad loans should come from where? Borrow it from China? Tax you and me? How about they tax the damn people that made out like bandits while this bad lending was going on. People like that scumbag from Lehman bros. that took 250 mil out of that company before it went under. We don't have the will to tax people who can easily pay it. Simple as that. We aren't gunna agree about what should be cut, but I think it's pretty obvious we need to raise money as well. They should tax the top 10% highest earners from 1 to 10 % more taxes in a graduated way(I don't think Honu is in that bunch, but she is excluded if she is,) and do away with the tax cut for whoever Obama says he wants to give it to. Then make these fkn Iraqis pay us back for getting rid of the a-hole they should of never allowed in. Make them pay us back(in oil money) for every damn penny we have been out trying to civilize those savages. I think it was a mistake to try to democratize savages, but Geedubb had his mind made up. Lets start getting our money back. Give us oil back, or money. Why do they think we should rebuild their country for free? Should get half back at least.

Well, somebody did nominate me for SEC. OF STATE. How is that, Kev?

I can agree with alot you say ,Scuds , and I say WOW!
The problem I have with taxing the highest earners is , they are usually providing the most commerce, jobs, small business and putting alot of their money into the economy . 250k is not alot for a small buisness to earn it doesnt even buy half a house around here , so I cant really see taxing buisness that earn only that much , just doesnt seem in the best intrests of everyone involved , it just invites more tax loopholes and all that stuff.
I agreee the Iraqi's should help with the cost rebuilding their country, and I will always believe that if nations want to be free , and I truly believe the Iraqi'a expected a diffirent outcome than all this , that we have an obligation to try and help them IF they are willing to help themselves.
I feel us as an American people , are smarter and more willing to make the best of a bad situtation than most countries around the world, we are crafty Americans.
We can overcome most things , we have more determination than most people around the world and we have proved it time and time again.
We should start our government reform by re-calling some loans and stop sending money to countries who dont like us ( ill let you make your own list) , we should have some peeps look up the asses of all these government programs , you and I know they are blowin our money.
I just read on-line about the first state funded health-welfare program in the United States going plthhhhh because people who already have insurance for their children thru their jobs or what not dropped their insurance to sign up for State funded insurance and it broke the bank. So now the people who really needed are are less fortunate and the one's who didnt need it screwed it up.
That is the problem I see with Gov. bought insurance and really I wish one of the candidates would have said hey , I wanna go after the drug companies and see what their costs really are , I wanna see the records of Doctors who bill Insurance companies for things that may or may have not been needed , I wanna see where all this money goes that people put in every year . If there is gonna be some Gov. involvement let it be on the side of the consumer.
