i don't know that any team has ever won the NC with a freshman signal caller.
when Bama won it in 92, jay barker was a soph. (if i rememeber right) his job was to NOT lose the game and let the defense win it.

i don't know that texas can win the NC but the talent they put on the field easily has them in the top 10. the back-up qb's at texas will be ok, the TEAM will have to learn to win another way.

marino wasn't close to winning a NC at pitt.

do you recall what years he played at Pitt? They did win it in 1976.
I remember he was close one season and lost in the bowl game.
