If the Mets don't overpay him it will be because the Angels do. An arbiter put his value at $10 million this year. I can't ever recall a player that had an arbitrated value close to that high and didn't get significantly more when entering the market (without being injured). I would think $14 to $15 million a year. The only way you'll see $12 million a year is if someone goes to 7 years and throws on a healthy buyout on an option for an 8th year. My prediction is 5 years - $70 million but I wouldn't be shocked to see him get more.

Never happen. No closer is going to get more than a three or 4 year deal. I dont think he will get more than $12 a year either. There are too many deals at that level and he isnt better than the other guys. I just dont think the demand is there for him at crazy numbers.

BJ Ryan got 5 years $47 million and that was back in 2005. K-Rod will get his $70 million.

And him blowing his arm out is why no one gives closers long term contracts. Omar Minaya does strange things with Latin players but if he does something that dumb it is close to Isiah time for him.

I don't think Minaya is very good, but that being said no one is in the Isiah category (Glenn Sather for the Rangers is getting close, maybe it is a msg thing. But that is for another thread another time).

But I really believe that Minaya is going to overpay and give him extra years on the deal to get K-Rod. The bullpen is the single most reason why they missed the playoffs and he is going to try to catch the biggest fish out there. He did it with Pedro. Gave him the extra year and Pedro was on the downside of his career. At least this guy s still in him prime.
