I'm not sure I necessarily agree with this. Fillies retire early much less than colts do. Even really good fillies. Look at the last 15 3 year old filly eclipse winners. Off the top of my head, the only ones that didn't come back at 4 were the injured Rags, Farda Amiga and Yank's Music.
