John Kruk looks like a real athlete. So does David Wells. And Bob Wickman. Sal Fasano's physique screams world class athlete. Remember Tony Siragusa? And Gilbert Brown. Casey Hampton? How about every offensive lineman in football.

If Pluto is a planet, David Wells should petition to become one as well. Both are dense and have eccentric orbits.

Damn that is one massive man.

How people forget Bo Jackson! I know, he didn't last long enough. But the guy was a great athlete.

Don't be knocking Fasano. He worked very hard to be where he is. His career could had been over a few years ago. "Coaching? I'm not 40 yet"

[quote=somerfrost]You taken a close look at some baseball players? For that matter, I suspect there are a couple nose tackles in football that I could still outrun...they were showing Warren Sapp last week on the sidelines without his pads and he was as big as the Goodyear Blimp! Is women's baskerball a sport? Lots of women playing there...all could handle anyone on this board. Of course they can't play in the NBA but the WNBA...is it a sport? Is woman's softball a sport? The women's semi-pro football leagues, wanta tell those girls they aren't playing a sport? Is horse racing a sport?[/QUOTE

Are you saying nose tackles in the NFL are not incredible atheltes? Do you realize what type of physical endurance it takes to play NFL football? Do you realize the amount of agility and strength it takes to play NFL football in any position besides kicker? Warren Sapp is an amazing athlete. He has to carry alot of weight because he is playing against people that would be able to push him around if he wasnt heavier. Yes, every NFL player is a far better athlete than John Daly would ever dream of being. Size is a big part of the game but the ability to MOVE the way they do while carrying that kind of weight is a testament to their athleticism.

Women's basketball IS a sport. It requires speed, quickness, and reflexes.

Womens softball IS a sport. Same reason.

Is horse racing? Yes, it is. The horses are the athletes.

How is anything you are saying disprove what i said? How is golf anymore of an athletic endeavor than archery?

Pitching still requires strength and endurance. How many John Kruks actually play today? Youve named two players that are over 40 and one that is retired. Is this the exception or the norm?

As for lineman, again, this is uninformed. Do you realize how agile these men are? Do you realize what a testament it is to their athletic ability to be able to carry that much weight but still move the way they do?

Are you also going to tell me that Sumo wrestlers are not great athletes?

Look at a guy like Charles Barkely who was an absolutely fantastic athlete. 6 foot 4 and he could get the ball over anybody down low. INcredible. Watch him swing the golf club and it will make you puke. Such a weird game.
Of course it is a difficult...GAME. Ive worked over twenty years for my lousy 12 handicap LOL. And if i had cyanide at times on the course...

However, how is it more of an ATHLETIC ENDEAVOR than archery? Or pool? Or bowling? Is it more difficult than any of those? Sure it is. Is it any more of an ATHLETIC ENDEAVOR?

no, it isnt. If it were such an athletic endeavor, i couldnt drink and smoke while i was doing it.

You can't compare golf to pool or archery. You could compare putting to pool or archery. You don't need to be athletic to putt. But it takes a lot of athleticm to hit a golf ball far. You have to generate serious club-head speed to hit a golf ball 280 yards.

I think for the most part golfers are tremendous athletes. Their athleticism differs from other sports (as all sports differ). I spent a morning at Dolphins training camp last week and I am absolutely amazed at the athleticism of all football players, especially the very large linemen who do carry a lot of weight. But I do think golfers are athletes as well. They walk 5-6 miles a day, 5-6 days a week and every five minutes they execute a shot that requires strerngth, skill and the ability to perform under pressure. I don't think there is much more individual pressure in any sport than in golf on a Sunday when every shot can mean $50,000 or much more.

.....and where if you don't perform....you don't get paid. How's that for having to perform under pressure?

Have never seen the girl play, so I'll take your word on the depth of her talent, GPK. And I've hit enough nasty slices in my brief dabbling in the game to realize that it takes a lot of skill and practice to master.

Just that if I was trying to make a living playing golf (and I have no idea if you do), I'd probably have a tough time dealing with finishing behind a 16yo girl.

Have seen way too many fat guys in their fifties drive the ball a long way to believe it takes "a lot of athleticism". Sure it takes a lot of skill and practice…..but athleticism…..please.

They still have endorsement loot though, I am guessing alot of it is incentive based but NONE of those pros are struggling and every single one of them has a SMOKIN hot wife..PGA guys probably have the hottest wives for any sport. even Billy F'n mayfair had a great piece of 43 year old behind this weekend

Huh? Just because a guy is heavy does not mean he's not an athlete. I got a real close up look at Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson at a Dolphins practice the other day. YOU tell him he's not an athlete just because he's 75 lb above his ideal weight.

YOU tell Larry Holmes too, ok? He was not the most toned guy in the world late in his career, including in '92 when he beat the sh1t out of a buffed-up Ray Mercer for 12 rounds at the age of 43.

I guess boxers are not athletes either?

And, of course, don't forget Dusty Rhodes. The American Dream was still doing it well into his 50's. "I have wined and dined with Kings and Queens; slept in alleys and lived on beans."

I rest my case.

Of course they're athletes, Stud…..because they're doing MUCH more athletic things like trying to get past a 350 pound offensive tackle so they can sack a QB…..or trying to knock someone's head off (or keep from getting their head knocked off) for 12 rounds, in the case of a boxer.

They're not standing around waiting to hit a little white ball that's sitting perfectly still on a tee.

By the way, who's Dusty Rhodes?

I'm not saying Sapp isn't an athlete, I'm simply saying the same things about him that you say about Daley or Lumpy...they don't look like typical athletes doesn't mean they aren't. Dusty Rhodes (real name Virgil something, got brain lock) is a professional wrestler and promoter, always looked fat and sloppy but boy could he get it done! Pro Wrestling brings up an interesting point...obviously not a sport but the guys that participate are certainly athletes. So...if we are going to determine whether something is a sport or not based solely on the perceived athleticism of the participants, are you gonna say Pro Wrestling is indeed a sport?

I seen Tony Sirugusa at White Castle in Indianapolis several years back when I lived their. It was right after last call, imagine that. Tony was sitting in front of, in my best estimation, 25-30 sliders, some onion rings, the man was slammin em' down. Dude can eat.

Dusty Rhodes is my favorite wrestler. Those were the days. I can't stand wrestling today. Give me the Iron Shiek, Ric Flair, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre The Giant, shoot I could talk for hours.

Kev we actually partly agree on something. Bo Jackson is the true definition of an athlete. I'll tell ya somebody I have always thought of as well as a well rounded athlete, those hot dog eating contests people as well as your spelling bee champions, yahtzee and poker players.

that's ridiculos calling pro wrestling a sport when the outcome is already arranged, I don't care if they are in great shape
I'm willing to bet any man
I could throw a football( professional weight and size)
a farther distance than Michelle Wie
and I am willing to wager I could out box Dusty Rhodes
and Somerfrost I challenge you to arm-wresting
if he likes wresting so much
and I will beat any man or woman at horse show tossing
