McCain suspends Campaign

Wow. What a cheap and pathetic move. It's clearly meant to shove Obama into a corner, so politically, it was a pretty brilliant move.

It's just posturing and I hope Obama doesn't bite, mostly because I'd just prefer to have a President capable of doing two things at once.

Someone should tell McCain that dealing with foreign policy and dealing with domestic policy is not an either/or, mutually exclusive, proposition once you're in the White House.

Sad and desparate. But then again, cheap, dishonest, and slimy moves like this have bred success for the last eight years, so why not stick with what works.

If it's not incredibly clear that, regardless of what you think of Obama, McCain has absolutely zero business running this country, add this notch and let me know when you finally figure it out.

I think the plan would be to try and avoid the partisan talk that you just have uttered. Which I am sure makes you feel really powerful and strong - but in the big picture of trying to work out some solution does zero. Whether you like it or not the answer lies somewhere in between and not on the left or right fringes.

Eh, powerful and strong is probably somewhat of an overstatement, but if that's how it comes off, I'll take it graciously.

More importantly, if the GOP weren't notorious for disingenuous, stupid trickery, then this might hold some water. But given the McCain campaign's penchant for outright lying in the last three weeks, it's pretty tough to give him the benefit of the doubt that he really is doing this for the well-being of the economy, and not of his own campaign (you know, the one that's in shambles and getting thrashed according to....well, everyone) considering that it's a trick right out of the typical GOP campaign playbook.

Isn't this, in a way, the 3 AM phone call? Obama says he can answer the call and still make time for the debate. McCain is saying that is too much for him to handle.

i think it probably was politically motivated, but i think it will backfire on him to be seen up there with Bush trying to ram this thing home. he will lose support from conservatives as i don't think this is going to play well. it doesn't with me.

these are dark times for those of us that are for smaller government.

Well, if you are honest..you will say both sides have engaged in less than truthful ads and trickery - but that's politics as my left wing friend GBBob taught me.

But what does that have to do with trying to find a solution to a problem that the Nation faces - that by all measures is the worst we have faced in decades.

I don't deny for a second that Dems engage in some less than truthful advertising...which is certainly politics.

Outright, blatant lying, which has become the order of the month for McCain and Palin, is something different...something that's not 'just' politics.

And it's not like Dems are notorious for this type of silly election trick the way Republicans are.

That, in itself, has nothing to do with solving the problem. But self-professed weak on the economy McCain (who a week ago said the fundamentals of the economy were strong, and is now saying he needs to suspend his campaign to fix them....) is not going to fix it. It's pure theater and grandstanding, which seems painfully obvious.

The Palin bubble is deflating and the economy is killing him. Heck, George HW Bush can lose an election within a year of an overwhelming victory in Iraq because of that little recession, what do you think this one is doing to McCain? He knows it...Rove knows it...they all know it.

When I said "stop towing the party line" what I meant was if you believe that McCain's move was anything BUT political then you are towing the party line.

As for a solution, neither McCain's or Obama's presence is going to make a hill of beans of difference in terms of the final result. This is basically a done deal anyway as everyone knows that this has to get done this weekend. period. end of story.

That is why this whole "im going to suspend my campaign" thing is so ridiculous.

As for a solution, the devil will surely be in the details. If there is a smart group regulating the assets that government will be buying, this will be a money making proposition for the taxpayer.
