Just spoke to Tom's Dad and he's out of surgery. All went well, although the surgeon told him the bladder was completely "dead" and very infected.."one of the worse he has seen" A lot of infection around the area and they are a little concerned about the liver but feel the antibiotics should take care of it.

It was the less invasive procedure that DocICU described and he may go home tomorrow or Thursday.

Will look to post pics of bladder as soon as I can in Esoteric

Best wishes to Tom for a speedy recovery... And I'm sure that just like LBJ before him, he will regale us with views of his scar soon!

Maybe he could put the infected parts in a big jar with formalin.
The tales of woe and human suffering could be accentuated
with appropriate visual evidence of the visceral calamity.

This visual was entitled as:

My Infected Gall Bladder...
Enjoy dinner.

Bob, hopefully they took his gallbladder and not his bladder or Tom's sex life would amount to one continuous golden shower.....lol.

The surgeon is likely describing the dreaded gangrenous gallbladder that could have perforated (had a hole in it for the infection to spread throughout his body) if left to fester much longer. Sounds like they got a diffcult decision done flawlessly as they didn't wait too long but gave the antibiotics enough time to make him a surgical candidate. Tom is obviously a lucky guy on this one as a perforated gallbladder is potentially life threatening.

He'll be his special self by the weekend.

That's exactly the phrase the surgeon told his Dad

and yes...GALL Bladder, not bladder-bladder

It's really great that when someone is in need here that the board rises to the occasion....I am sure Tom is touched by that. Positive vibes like this thread actually do help people get better faster...

Glad he's okay after the surgery. I saw him at Keeneland, heard about the first ER visit, and he seemed fine at that time. Could have been very different, glad he went back to the hospital right away, hope you get better post-surgery very, very soon Tom!
