Default Azhar (3yr old filly by Alber the Great) R.I.P.

A really bad thing happened to some really good people Sunday night. My firiend's beautiful 3yo filly, Azhar broke down in the stretch in the 8th race at Presque Isle Sunday night and had to be euthanized. She was trained by Gerry Bennett and was starting to really put it together. I just wanted to give Rich and Jason at Twin C Stables best wishes. They are not major owners and were hoping with her breeding she would have a successful broodmare career.

Just started to wager or fool around to be more precise at Presque Isle, my initial observations are it is an inside speed biased surface. Usually horses that have the lead heading into the stretch are hard to catch. Nice track, prefer it over Mountaineer.

Tapeta and a breakdown?

Anyway, I hate to hear or see one of these things happen, and having been on the bad end of this before, I certainly can feel for the folks involved.

Good thoughts to you and the owners.

I sure hate to hear it when such sad and bad things happen to these horses, but I do believe we should all take note when it happens.

I'm not being a "bleeding heart" at all, but I'm pretty much all for anything that would make this sport and love any safer for our athletes and performers.

I've followed this sport for a long long time with mostly great enjoyment and sometimes unexpected sorrow.

I'm not stopping.

Cashing tickets totally aside, I just want as high of a percentage of great enjoyment as we can all get.
