Why geld him though? With his pedigree even if he doesn't run well, couldn't he have had some value as a stallion? Even like $500?
If a stallion can't command a full book ... for at least his first three years ... at a $2,500 fee or usually more ... the big stud farms ... or even the medium ones ... won't touch him.

Do the math ... 40 mares a year at $2,500 = $100,000 gross. Take out all the overhead, insurance, upkeep, sales, marketing ... and there's not much left.

If you have your own little operation ... you can make some pocket change by having a stallion cover ten or fifteen mares a year at $500 each.
