Have to agree I think maybe this guy either *thinks* he did it (i.e. has convinced/dellusioned himself) or wishes he had. He's certainly guilty of something, but I'll be really interested in this now because there are a lot of things that don't jibe.

Thanks from me, too, for the clarification, Gander. You'd be amazed at the large number of people who do think gays and pedophiles are synonymous so I'm afraid my tongue-in-cheek radar wasn't turned on at that point yesterday.

Here's a pretty good NYTimes article on the guy and the case:

I work in advertising. I am surrounded by people who prefer the same sex and believe me, they are harmless. While I can not figure out what would posess a man to find men more attractive than women, its their choice and it doesnt make them any more inclined to committ haneous crimes.

This is just an awful thing and I hope it gets put to bed one way or another.

I can't answer that question but I suppose it's like this...I might find a lady very attractive while you may think she's not; why do some men go for fat women, others have to have a beanpole figured girl? If beauty is in the eye of the beholder then I suppose that implies that different folks find different physical attributes attractive, so it follows that some folks find members of the same sex desirable. I think the only thing that is important is love...if you love someone, what else really matters? We are conditioned from birth to find members of the opposite sex attractive and certainly to continue the species, this has been necessary...but is it some sort of cosmic mandate? I don't know but I doubt it!

Somer-

Are there such things as gay animals? Like a horse for instance? Or a chipmunk.

Homosexuality has been noted in a number of species...generally more likely to occur in species close on the evolutionary scale to man (ie: the great apes), however it has been noted by researchers in dolphins, penguins, American bison, cattle, and sheep (bad news for Papa).

Homosexuality is quite common in the animal kingdom (and more so in the wild than in zoos, though why I have no idea). I think it's just another example of "biological exuberance," to borrow the title of the textbook on homosexuality in animals.

In fact, it was the zoo I work at that gave a fertilized egg to a pair of male penguins and they hatched and raised the chick themselves. Animal gay adoption? Tee hee. The Daily Show did a pretty funny segment on it.

If it's between consenting adults, whatever "it" might be, s'all okay with me. I'm just not all that interested in what's going on in anyone's bedroom except my own.

I agree with you about American bison. They are as queer as they come. They practically swish when they walk.

That's the trouble with how these cases are handled by the media, in their blood-lust to scoop everybody, they print all sorts of mis-information calling it "news". The officials in Thailand have changed their statements a couple times...hardly surprising! Some poor guy not use to being swarmed by the media gets a dozen microphones thrust in his face and god knows what comes out his mouth! Time folks...this will take time! The evidence will be presented and a jury (assuming it goes to trial) will decide. In the meantime, all this speculation is just that...every network has a never-ending parade of "experts" giving their opinions...all crap! I don't care how much experience, education etc someone has, they can't make informed comments without accurate and complete information! There is a lot we obviously don't know...details he allegedly knew that were never made public etc etc. The guy could be anything...obviously he has a troubled past. His wife says he was with her at the time but can't recall even where they were...lots of conflicting information...all thrust on us as "facts"! Whatever happened to verifying sources and responsible journalism?
