You wont, the racing has gone too far downhill to be even remotely arguable.
But it would be nice to have something to do like take a walk on the beach or a short drive to see the San Diego Padres play, as opposed to going to a place like Siros and paying $7 for a can of beer. |

I'm from the left coast and am in agreement. Although, what Joel said about the scenery couldn't be more accurate.

The racing is so much better at Saratoga it is not funny. Saratoga is just much better. Keeneland is the only track even close.
The time you will have in San Diego compared to Saratoga is not even funny. Del Mar blows Saratoga away if you are going for a weeks vacation. If you want just racing go to Saratoga. If you want an entire vacation go to San Diego. Please do not respond unless you have been to both. It is amazing how many people compare the two without even having been to one or the other. The woman at Saratoga are pretty nice. Some nice fillies do a fashion show in the morning some days. However, the woman at Del Mar put the women at Saratoga to shame. |

Been to both. Not to restate the obvious, but Saratoga is for racing and "history", Del Mar is for the various "views", location, and weather. If the focus of this thread is to focus on racing the better comparison is Oak Tree vs Belmont Championship meeting. IMO the Oak Tree meeting has far better racing than Del Mar and the Belmont Championship meeting usually has better racing than even Saratoga.

Won't be long and you won't be able to blame the hard dirt tracks in California. |

Bold: As someone who was born and raised in the NYC metro area and came out to the San Francisco area 20 years ago i can say without a doubt that Saratoga racing rules over Del Mar. And, you can extend that to New York Racing rules over California. No one should even debate that fact. When i was in a position to buy a couple of horses this year for the first time ever i did not hesitate to buy NY Breds although i am 3000 miles away from them.... Del Mar is a beautiful setting but so is Saratoga. They are both beautiful in their own ways just different. North Beach County San Diego has the most beautiful beaches in our state and there is something about spending a week during the meet and being able to swim in the Pacific in the morning and go to the track for their 2pm post time.... Saratoga and spending time around the barns and going to the Oklahoma track in the mornings is also quite beautiful and special.... My last wish would be to spend August in Saratoga and spend every morning at the barns at Saratoga Race Course.... The racing is a joke in California and the racing at Saratoga is the best that we see all year on a consistent day-to-day basis followed by Keeneland..... For what its worth, that is my opinion living out here on the Left Coast. PSH

This Sunday's card is actually quite good at Delmar.
Pat O Brien is a very contentious race with no horse going to be lower than 3/1 and about 4-5 horses you can make a serious case for in the win slot. Then we get to watch the Lava Man go for his 6th win of the year and put a stamp on his horse of the year claim (unless Bernardini wins his next 3 including the Classic). Good stuff from both coasts this weekend. |
