![]() we had the jets on yesterday. of course nfl network used the local feed-one half from each city and of course their announcers. i have never heard so much gushing about a player, it was nauseating. and then the whole 'man-genious' thing. ugh

![]() As a Jets fan BF (before Favre), I can tell you that Eric Mangini has done NOTHING yet to earn any accolades as a head coach. Last season especially, he and GM Tannembaum completely mis-read how god-awful the offensive line was (which they obviously have taken steps to fix), and not one guy on that team over-achieved. Hell, the only guy who earned his salary last season was the kicker, Nugent.
So he has much to prove this year. |

I remeber last season (in the middle of a 4-12 campaign) seeing a Verizon commercial starring Mangenius and laughing. Thinking that there are like 25 other more qualified, better coaches that should be doing the commercial.

![]() One final quote from a guy you didn't hear much from..
Q: This question was asked a lot this summer, and neither you nor (General Manager) Ted Thompson ever answered it directly. Why did you guys pick Aaron Rodgers instead of Brett Favre? McCarthy: "I'm going to say this about the Favre situation: First of all, we should be here talking about the 2008 team, and I think we both recognize that. Secondly, that wasn't the question. I think so much has been twisted and spun. It really came down to him making a decision. I'm coaching the football team. At some point, when you get involved in situations that are at an organization level, then everybody's responsible for their part. Ted is responsible for the whole football operation. I'm ultimately responsible for the football team. Decisions have to be made on factual information, and I think if you just go out there and connect the dots, you can answer your own question. I'm going to stay on the high road with this thing. Obviously, I'm not in agreement with a lot of things that have been said or will continue to be said. There's nothing to gain for me to go back into it." Q: After all that happened, where does your relationship stand with Brett, and how did you leave things with him when you last spoke? McCarthy: "We haven't spoken since he left here. He was here on that Monday and Tuesday, and I think he left on Wednesday, right? So I spoke to him here Monday night for a long time, Tuesday morning for a long time, and I spoke to him on the phone that evening. It was very productive, respectful, but I haven't spoken to him since he's gone on to New York. As a head coach for an opposing team, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to be calling someone's starting quarterback."
