Mermaid,
Your times are accurate. 3 1/2 is about right.
Try this next time. Instead of going up to the Tappan Zee and then getting on the Thruway, go across at the Geo Washington to NJ. Take either RT 80 or RT 4 west to 17 north. Get on the Thruway at Suffern.
You'll save 1/2 hour.
The hypotoneuse of a triangle is shorter than its other two legs, if you know what I mean.

I drive a van with commercial plates so i'm not sure if you're allowed on the Palisades parkway.in NY all roads that say pkwy are off limits to commercial vehicles.

Mark,
You're not going on the Palisades Parkway...or any road parallel to the Hudson.
RT 4, RT 80, Rt 17 allow commercial plates.
Try it. It's pretty easy and you'll save both gas and tolls.

But that means i have to be on either the Cross Bronx Distressway or the Bruckner distressway. It's easier and less traffic to take I-95 to I-287 and cut across to the Thruway.

Ok...I thought you were coming across from LI...Tri borough.
Cross Bronx to Geo W..once you're in Jersey you're good to go.
Do what you think is easier. Just trying to help.
