This seems like the time to bring back the Saratoga Cup, 1 3/4 miles, run first in 1865 at 2 1/4 miles, last run at a marathon distance in the 60s. The only horses that are around to run in such races are plodding stayers like Malibu Moonshine.. The stock and or the trainers aren't involved in conditioning anything but run the way ordinary horses for such a race. Until there is a shift in the industry let's keep the gold in the hands of real horses not a bunch of 50 claimers that can run 14 fulongs at 27 seconds each.. In europe you have horse with talent like the two Obrien conditions just nothing in the States like Like Yeats and Septimus

Why will there be a shift in the industry if no races are carded for longer distances ? There won't be.
