Question, Hasn't he been running on synthetic tracks now for the past year and aren't they supposed to protect horses from injuries like this? Or does the surface have nothing to do with it?

What AW tracks are supposed to do is reduce the number of catastrophic injuries, those that cost the horse its life. Broken bones in the ankles and legs, for the most part. Heatseeker has a 'soft tissue injury', a tendon injury. Some trainers think that Poly in particular makes this sort of injury more likely.
