Myung Kwon Cho also trained and owned Video Ranger, 2nd in the Santa Anita Derby to Mister Friskey. Later he either won or was just edged by fledging owner Frank Stronach's Yonder (a former Claiborne horse) in the Jersey Derby, before getting crushed in the Belmont.

A couple of years ago he ran the good allowance horse Double Galore (who may be a half brother to Street Hero) in the Belmont and got beat a pole.

He also trained a total monster 10-15 years ago. A cal bred, I think he was a son of that Cox's Ridge stallion he seemed connected to.

That horse looked like he was going to be any kind, but died suddenly as a 2yo.

I wish I could remember his name.

The Cox's Ridge stallion was Video Ranger (he was a 3yo of 1990). Video Ranger sired Nationalore, multiple graded stakes placed but never a winner, who broke down as an older horse. Not sure if there is another horse you are considering.

Yeah, I remember Video Ranger. I'm pretty sure this horse was a son of his, especially since this trainer seemed to train almost exclusively Video Ranger offspring. He won one of the stakes at Del Mar and then died.

Riva Ranger (2-for-2) broke down and was euthanized on the track after winning the Graduation Stakes at Del Mar.

Thanks, that sounds like the horse. I wish I could get video on that horse, he was extremely nice.

How'd you figure that out? I think I've mentioned this horse to you a bunch of times over the years but never could figure out his name.

Well, then at least the name "Street Hero" should remind you of the greatest Rokeby horse of all-time (aside from Red Ransom), Sea Hero, who took the '93 Kentucky Derby and Travers.

Yep. Sea Hero now stands at stud in Turkey. Bailey acts like a Turkey on TV.

What future Grade 1 winner was Sea Hero coupled with in his final career start? (the 1994 Fayette at Keeneland)

Key Contender. The fact that Sea Hero failed to finish in front of his less fancied stablemate (he won his Grade 1 for someone else after being sold by Rokeby) prompted Mack Miller to retire him immediately.

Personally, though I don't think he would have been some top older horse, I think Sea Hero's 4yo campaign was hindered by all the turf starts, when the year before, Miller had been so patient with allowing him to "round to form" for his biggest engagements as a 3yo in spite of less-than-stellar efforts in prep races like the Palm Beach and Jim Dandy. After getting lit up by Devil His Due in the Brooklyn early as a 4yo, it was as if had no hope of winning on dirt again, unfortunately he couldn't get it done on turf either.

Video Ranger ran 4th in the Kentucky Derby behind Unbridled, Summer Squall, and Pleasant Tap. It was Ron Hansen's only Derby mount ever.

Rollo,

I loved Yonder.. I mean LOVED. There was a booth at Belmont one Stakes Weekend where they would embroider a horse name over a bay, grey, etc. runner, and I made a Yonder hat. Still have it. I saw him win the Remsen at 2 and I'm sure I thought at the time he was going to be the Derby winner. He ended up 5th in the Belmont I think...

He was actually a stiff that was never as good as he might have been as a son of Slew. He's a sire in Korea or the Phillipines or somewhere. His first four broodmare sires were Forli, Round Table, Hail to Reason and Stymie (!).

Another one like Yonder that I was crazy for was the enigmatic Lost Mountain... Saw him win the Haskell but had been crazy about him as a classic horse earlier. He was pretty good.. Won a few other stakes besides the Haskell, but was 15th or so in Strike the Gold's Derby and maybe 8th in Hansel's Belmont.

Lost Mountain went on a tear after the Derby. I think he won the Peter Pan, Dwyer, and Haskell all at good odds. Might have run only a couple of times at 4, so the tough campaign must have taken its toll. I think he ran in the BC Juvenile as a maiden, and in either the Champagne or some maiden race he clipped heels and fell. That was back when Loblloly was good for one or two top 3yos every spring.
