This is a 'seminal' race of sorts. We have an acknowledged 'very good' dirt horse meeting good turf sprinters on their surface. A horse that ran with Commentator early last out in insane fractions facing a bunch on NY breds and a mare. I'm very interested in seeing how FD runs, as I'm not convinced, as many are, that turf sprinters are no talent bums. Unfortunately, the field is not of the caliber, relatively, that FD is, and the course is off. He's supposed to be beat this field but I don't know if that will reveal much, if anything.

I hope, that we see more of these types of races in the future, between the better quality horses of each surface. As noted previously, I wish English Colony were in the race.

the first post calls them "no good" turf sprinters, now they have suddenly become "good" turf sprinters.

I really need to tone is down a bit here. I'm assuming a reasonable intellect level. My bad.

Hard to believe that my intent is so completely MISunderstood. This is not about me TOUTING a horse. Nor is there an inconsistency in my comments. It's in response to a recent claim that turf sprinters are basically USELESS; by someone on this forum. Thus, the original post is from that perspective; the perspective that DIRT horses are superior out of hand.

And here we have a higher quality dirt horse facing good turf sprinters.

That this field is 'good', is MY assessment.

GET IT?

What you're really doing is proving my point.....First Defence has proven that he cannot compete effectively at a high level on the dirt so Frankel is now taking the next step. I know, you can argue First Defence is better than I am saying, and I don't disagree, but in the overall scheme of things he's been a failure.

Now, the BC turf sprint probably facilitated his move to turf sprints, so that's good, but the bottom line is that if he were good enough to succeed in major dirt sprints he wouldn't be in here.

You know that I think this horse is a PUNK. I've stated this previously. But, he's still one of the better sprinters out there. You can't argue that. And today, we see that he needs EVERY INCH of a pace advantage to beat a 'good' field. He gets CRUSHED in an honest race or a better field.

One way of looking at it is that he's here, with the 'losers', because he's failed
in the grander arena. Another might be: maybe the losers aren't that bad after all at their game.

Fair enough, and that is a good way of looking at it, but the problem is they are good at a game that just isn't very good. Look, there is nothing wrong with horses finding their niche, and turf sprints ( and even polytrack ) have provided that. However, when these horses are rewarded with a championship, theoretically putting them on par with other supposed champions, I just won't buy it. Now, I know you don't either, and I guess someone has to be the King of Mediocrity ( I've already thrown my hat in the ring ) but that doesn't make them special.
