The denotation of bute in the DRF is for race-day bute only -- correct Chuck? Andy? Is NY 24 hours out?
I don't race in CA, but I was under the impression that CA allows race-day bute, which in fact would be very different than NY. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about any of this, LOL. Eric |

By the time the race goes off I'll be just about embalmed with beer. I guess I'll have to stick with Brown.

Got it -- thanks. So it looks like the difference is merely in the reporting requirements.

The difference in denotation may simply be that in CA the trainer is obligated to announce the administration of the drug to the state veterinarian (for the purposes of post-race testing). In the event that a trainer fails to report it, and the horse gets tested, and is found to have acceptable levels of Bute in its system, the trainer is subject to being fined even though the horse was given Bute by the rules. |

As far as your second paragraph, when you said "may simply" -- I don't know about that. Like I said, I don't race in CA, but Chuck might be able to answer the question, or someone who plays and knows CA racing intimately. If not, I can easily call a trainer friend of mine. He's been bugging me to claim one out there, LOL. I wish I remembered who/where someone told me CA is race-day bute (meaning treatment/administration). If it's just reporting, and it's still X hours/days out, OK. Eric |

The rule in CA is Bute (or other non-steroidal) must be given no later than 24 hrs prior to post. Just like NY (and KY if you read Rupert's post earlier). |
