Goldberg really needs to buy some lottery tickets. Last year he puts Catmosphere over like a good thing when the rail opens up for her entering the stretch. (He paid for it next time out when she PUKED as the chalk, I believe.)

Today, Manastic Springs:

1) gets taken out by the 1A at the break

2) rushes up in what MIRACULOUSLY is a wide open rail the length of the backstretch in a 12 horse field

3) returns the favor to the 1A by intimidating that one going into the turn by coming out and forcing it to check

4) causes a severe chain reaction late, very nicely taking the 9 out of the race

The 9, TONS THE BEST, was also taken out entering the stretch in an earlier chain reaction. (Some DOOFUS over at PA is referring to him as a 'hanger' that wouldn't have won anyway. RIGHT.)

Congrats to those who had him. But, no whining about tough beats for the next few days.

I mean, I don't know who I have LESS CONFIDENCE in at this point; the NYRA stewards; the chartmaker for the NYRA races; or the VIDEO crew at NYRA.

IMO the second finisher caused the winner to bear out when he herded him in midstretch.

I had the race on DVR and watched the head on multiple times and you are absolutely correct. When Coa went to the right handed whip his horse drifted towards the rail. Once he went to the left whip the horse veered to the outside. Montastic Springs veered out because of He Struck It Rich drifting over. The stewards made the correct decision to keep him up on top.

I think that you'll agree that, by definition, in order to 'herd', a horse needs to be somewhat abreast another horse. Monastic Springs was a length behind Coa, at least, at the time of the 'herding'. The pan shot clearly shows this. And, Prado is sticking lefty heavily just before the incident. If there's another shot that shows this to NOT be the case, then I'm wrong. I'll assume the pan shot is an optical illusion.

Clearly, Coa came out, shutting MS off. But that doesn't mean he needs to bully his way through.

Let's assume, however, that MS WAS herded. Then, how about we take the 5 down? Horses are getting bounced around like billiard balls in the stretch and NOTHING happened and NO ONE is to blame?

This is a flat out joke. If this happens in any other venue, commisioners are publically apologizing and privately reprimanding.

Very nice call, BTW, but to be fair, you're not the only smart guy out there:

The only idiot in this thread is me, who got stuck on a plane and missed a score on this horse that I had planned on betting on Andy's recommendation.

Nice call, I am truly shocked she paid $27.80. That is borderline ridiculous.

The other foal by Escena cost $3.7 million and pretty much couldn't run.
