He is not training today. This was back when the horse was purchased, brought over here to the US, raced and retired.

I'll tell ya all a funny story about EW-boy wonder trainer.

I was a part owner in a excellent 2yo that won his 1st race in open company 7f at SAR in 2002. He breezed a 35 and change in a prerace work. Ran down some very good horses in that race and won impressively. Next out ran 3rd in the Champagne Stakes @ Bel. WinStar made a 75% $700,000 private purchase from us for this colt as he was an early Derby horse and they didn't have one Derby Eligible or ready.

So EW gets his hands on this colt who never has been injured...and you guess it...all types of things start happening which is not so uncommon.

But the best part is as a 3 yo he races the same colt at SAR, horse runs poorly. I go to the barn to visit my colt (which is now a gelding, unbeknownst to the 25% remaining owners) and he makes the comment that the colt hates the track. Now this is the same colt that ran the daylights on the same surface only 11 months prior. I just looked at this guy in amazement..like he never knew this colt won his initial race over the same surface and worked a 35 breeze. I knew then that this guy was clueless. He didn't last much longer as WinStars trainer either shortly after that.

Goldberg really needs to buy some lottery tickets. Last year he puts Catmosphere over like a good thing when the rail opens up for her entering the stretch. (He paid for it next time out when she PUKED as the chalk, I believe.)

Today, Manastic Springs:

1) gets taken out by the 1A at the break

2) rushes up in what MIRACULOUSLY is a wide open rail the length of the backstretch in a 12 horse field

3) returns the favor to the 1A by intimidating that one going into the turn by coming out and forcing it to check

4) causes a severe chain reaction late, very nicely taking the 9 out of the race

The 9, TONS THE BEST, was also taken out entering the stretch in an earlier chain reaction. (Some DOOFUS over at PA is referring to him as a 'hanger' that wouldn't have won anyway. RIGHT.)

Congrats to those who had him. But, no whining about tough beats for the next few days.

I mean, I don't know who I have LESS CONFIDENCE in at this point; the NYRA stewards; the chartmaker for the NYRA races; or the VIDEO crew at NYRA.

Pretty loaded maiden race! This looks like a nice horse in the making.

I thought the same thing before and immediately after the race. I was shocked to see that Halation, the 70-1 winner of the NY-bred MSW race in the 5th, actually ran the same distance 2/5 of a second faster.
