For his part my dad has also removed the TVG from the cable and will no longer be taking me to the track or even talk about horse racing, or poker. I'm sure many of you already know the wacky turn ive had the past 2 years and in some cases 4. Id still like to talk to you on messenger, we dont have to talk about horses.

Question I have is if your computer is being taken away then how can we chat on messenger? In any case Jerry, you know how to get ahold of me.

Jerry,

I pm'ed you my number. Let me know that you got it, if I don't hear from you I will forward it to someone so they can pass it on to you. I have shared in the past on the other forum some of the loewst points of my life, oddly enough a big part of that was gambling. I spoke with you on I believe Saturday and you said everything was cool? What happened? Nevermind, I know how that goes. Been down that road.

It is for the best that someone loves you enough to step in and give you some tough love. Don't end up like me. At the height of my problem, within a month, my new Chevy truck was repo'ed, I had 48 hours to get all my belongings out of the apartment, my credit card was maxed from cash advances and I was only a step away from losing my job. I ended up losing that job within a week of being evicted, had all my personal belongings in a garage and was driving a car borrowed from a friends parents. My only friend at that time in my eyes was a bottle and an exacta at whatever track was up next. I lived in that car for well over a month. I would go to a day labor shop, work for $6 an hour, get paid the $30 or $40 and drink and gamble it away every day. Back up at 4:00am the next day doing the same thing. Lived in it. Showered in a bathroom sink the majority of the time. My mother thought I had committed suicide and filed a missing persons report.

Didn't take long for someone to find me. Someone who loves me. Don't end up like me. I am better now, I have control over my gambling compared to how it used to be. Call me man, I have been in your shoes. I make a great listener.

Curt

well Jerry, look on the bright side
at least you got over your terrible bout with cancer
(inside joke, no need to get alarmed)
just remember the addict will find a way
so until YOU want to beat this yourself
the addition will still remain
I'll keep you in my prayers
if you ever want to talk
just ask Mr. Saratoga for my number
(he does care, and so do I)

While we all find you very annoying, we wish you the best of luck and hope you put your life together. Take up golf. I am addicted to that and another guy here said you should try chess. He spends half the day on the computer playing chess.

The point isn't to get addicted to something else... it's to NOT be addicted at all. Any 12 step program will teach you that.

Everyone is addicted to something, it is human nature. Addictions are nothing more than habits of the mind.

As Erasmus noted, "A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit."

There's a difference between an infatuation and an addiction. Most humans have infatuations. Curing one addiction by replacing it with another doesn't help the cause. It also doesn't help unless Seattle is the one who wants to get rid of his addiction.
