A note on her pedigree. x2 to Mr Propspector, x3 to Raise A Native, x4 to Native Dancer. This is a high wire act of breeding in that one runs a lot of risk for unsoundness by crossing all these unsound influences.

A smiling Jones was shown after the race walking down the track with Asmussen to unsaddle their horses. NBC had already reported the injury, but the poor guy had no idea what had happened.

On Good morning America right now.

No new news rally as far as an explaination. Asked if horses are being bred to cause such things as breakdowns, said you want to bred a fast horse

In all likelihood she suffered both injuries during the race. On the gallop out, when the riders typically give their mounts "their heads", I would imagine the lax and uncollected strides she was taking on already injured limbs resulted in further, irreparable damage.

i agree 100%... dont jockeys feel those injuries and pull a horse up instead of beating the hell out of her??

I would say about 98% would pull them up if they felt a bobble. The other 2%should'nt be riding. I find it so hard to believe that Gabriel did'nt feel SOMETHING around the finish or shortly there-after. I mean BOTH ankles...come on!!

To be fair, sometimes things don't become obvious until well after the race. Take The Cliff's Edge for instance, he ran 2nd or 3rd in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, then was found to be lame in the test barn with a broken ankle.

Certainly he didn't break his leg getting a bath.
