You won't get an argument from me that the quality isn't great across the board, but considering what we have, I think the two days drew good fields.

I agree that DOA is a good play against.. I think Einstein is too. Look at this PP's.. he's following the same pattern from the past two years.. is sharp in the early part of the year, then fizzles in the Woodford... no reason to think it won't happen again in 2008. He's 3-0-0-0 in turf starts at CD.

DOA is a tough filly. She was on my vulture list but improved over the last year/never was entered in the right races. She is tough at a mile. She isn't some superstar, but she is a good filly.
Ventura and Carlock are the two other interesting fillies here. Danzon isn't terrible but she isn't at all brilliant. Have to figure that Carlock is going to find this distance short and finish 2nd 3rd or 4th at a nicer price than other also rans like susan or danzon. Ventura has impressed with how a router(9furlong filly?) like her came in and actually won her speed workout(yea it was only 4 other horses) and then went and stamped out 10 others in a decent test of speed and stamina over the 7furlong Keeneland poly in 82flat. We know what Frankel can do with a filly, and this one has responded to the "put some speed into her" period better than anyone could have hoped. Ventura can win, but where will Anna be? 2nd or 3rd is more likely than folding. One of those races where you finally beat a fan-fav, but the horse doesn't leave you the whole exacta and tri. Multi-race double-pick3-4-6 players get all the fun.

Don't we have this conversation every time DOA runs, even at nine furlongs? So it's not really a question of her being an eight or nine panel horse -- it's a matter of always wanting to play against her. I even fell for it at Arlington last year.

She's always talked about as beatable, everyone always says she'll fold -- there's always some problem.

Yet she keeps on winning, and she keeps doing it stylishly.

Hardly a single, but making her an autotoss has got to be one of the worst ideas I've heard around here in some time.
