it seems like it may hint at speed.

the 2 post is more of a sit - in - the pocket position.

20= If he just goes out with natural speed maybe 4 or 5 wide is his best hope? Maybe they will try and go just like in the FlaDerby?

Regardless of whether he makes the lead or not, I'm of the mind that he will have to work way too hard in the first half-mile. His best shot would be to take back, but I think the horse has too high of a cruising speed to be far off the lead.

How is Big Truck 50/1 with none of those other horses over 30/1? I bet at least five horses go off at higher odds. Z Humor is the best bet for longest odds I would think.

Anak Nakal at 30/1 particularly made me laugh. A very lazy M/L by Battaglia.

Watch it be a Dutrow-Assmussen box. I'll quit this game if that happens.

Horse racing continues to shoot itself in the foot. The Derby and Preakness on NBC. The Belmont on ABC. Breeders Cup on ESPN.

Nobody (general public) knows where to look to find the damn sport anymore. It's only available in specialty press, specialty papers, specialty internet, specialty TV. I know fans who are interested in horse racing, and just realized the Derby is in days. Why? They haven't heard much about it unless they seek it out.

I've started referring everyone (fans, general interest) to The Bloodhorse website. It's got everything for them - videos, interviews, faces on the personalities, the horses ....

DRF on the internet seems near-dead to me - handicapping only. I hardly go there any more. Bloodhorse gets the breaking news up more quickly, more accurately.

ESPN is absolutely effing horrible! ESPN Classic Sports Century was supposed to air Seattle Slew at 7pm. What was on? Effin soccer. They showed the last 15 minutes of Sports Century . Not the decency to re-air it at 8. No. They have to show a bowling movie instead? It's Derby week for crying out loud!
ESPN is absolutely horrible!

Horse Racing Instead of "NASCAR Now"

This will be a post to discuss the live draw for post positions in the Kentucky Derby that was supposed to end at 6PM.

NASCAR Now was scheduled in that timeslot and the live Derby draw is still on the air at 6:20PM.

Your comments are welcome below as we all watch this on-air issue continue. I have not seen an explanation on the lower third information panel. ESPN is in SportsCenter, and ESPN Classic is in soccer.

Update #1: ESPN2 just ran a promo for SportsCenter at 6:20PM that talked about the show that began at 6PM, so it looks like the Derby show is being "time-shifted." They also used a lower third graphic to say NASCAR Now was coming up next.

Update #2: For those of you just coming home to review the VCR or the DVR for NASCAR Now, you actually have the draw for the Kentucky Derby. NASCAR Now was pushed back to 6:30PM, which loses a lot of viewers who normally record the show.

The Daly Planet welcomes comments from readers. Simply click on the COMMENTS button below and follow the instructions. Thanks for stopping by.

There is no way that Soccer has a larger following among Americans than horse racing. You are insane to think that there is some huge following of English league soccer by Americans. Maybe the imports continue to follow but many millions more will watch horseracing this weekend than will watch an entire years worth of soccer.

I know one racing fan that I would've known regardless of racing. I know a handful of soccer fans. Maybe it's a Northeast thing, but racing is totally marginalized and soccer has a decent following here. Go check out ESPN.com, soccer is among the individual sports that you can click on at the top of the screen. Horse racing is in the "More Sports" section. Why is that? And don't tell me it's because it's an international website.. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people on that site are Americans.

Crazy as it may sound, Big Truck has looked really good in the mornings too. I may have to put $2 across on him for shiats and grins.

When is the last time a newspaper had a story on soccer. NYC papers dont count because very few people who live there are actually american. When was the last time ESPN had a sportscenter at a Soccer game? When was the last time Soccer was the lead sports story on the news? I know a lot of guys who follow English league soccer, none are American. Soccer has virtually no following of Americans because there is almost zero exposure here. There is a reason for that.

So because the Derby and Breeders' Cup get some exposure, horse racing is more popular here than soccer?

And what are you talking about "not American"? They live here, right? They watch TV here, right? Do you think sponsors and networks care whether or not they were born in America?
