Incredible the amount of MAN love for Pat. Hardly a fart is cut by him without someone reporting on it.

And Yes all of the above opinions are paraphrase of what I was trying albeit poorly to get across. I have no drug of choice to cure a craving as in the drug of choice for a C-Diff infection would be Flagyl initially Kev The hallmark of the personality disorder for "addiction" is a bit more difficult to be concise about. Like all psychiatry is has to do with having a certain number of major and minor criteria that define the disease. The short version would be 1) an ongoing use of a substance despite consequences that would normally be enough to have an individual refrain 2) Withdrawal symptoms when one stops using a substance 3) An inordinate effort to procure a substance to continue to use. eg The guy who won't ever go to dinner at a place that doesn't serve alcohol. Just a few of criteria that clinicians use. Scavs I am very glad for the success of your friend and wish him further success in his recovery. I am still shaking my head and smiling about your comments that the physician shortage in certain specialties can be remedied by training nurses to do physician care. After 10 years of training following college and having to borrow a quarter million dollars I find it amusing that an individual with less than half the training can practice critical care with 6 extra months on their 4 year college degree. When it comes time to have someone stick a 3.5 inch needle blindly in my neck to place a transvenous pacer to save someone's life please call the board certified intensivist for me when I have my heart attack because a jock didn't ride to the wire. Just bustin' you buddy I am actually very fond of most of your opinions. ![]() |

Certainly respect your opinion Doc. I was just curious as to why you thought that the disease of addiction has "no cure or effective treatment". |

The ego of so many physicians is simply out of hand. The truth is that the major requirement to be a physician is to be smart, and that's not as rare as you would hope. The greed of these people can't be measured .It's off the scale.Give some top nurses more and more training, and you've got a much better caregiver than these bitter people looking for more and more money. They want more and more money, because they went into something for the pay and the prestige. They usually didn't do it because they had a calling to be spending their time with sick people.Just give me a nurse with extra training. When people realize they can't afford to keep paying so much of their money for healthcare, then they will start to figure it out,but until then it's gunna stay messed up.Wait until the general election gets going, and you'll see the AMA dump their money into McCain's pockets.Whatever it takes to keep good medical care rare and expensive.

Scavs if I have you wrong obviously I fall on my sword but I was pretty sure about this from about 4-6 months ago. If you are falsely accused I have no reason to take you at your word my friend. |
