Curlins value

I'm probably in the minority on this, but to me it seems premature to say that Curlin is going to be a good stallion because he's by Smart Strike. Tenpins will have two year olds racing this year, and I'm curious to see how they do before annointing Smart Strike a sire of sires.

Well surely there is a difference between Tenpins and Curlin that should be taken into account, no?

A gritty little horse or a world champion, best horse in the world, and likely soon to be winningest horse of all time. Maybe I don't understand breeding, but regardless of their lineage, isn't using one to judge the other's potential a little folly?

Perhaps it is, but since we have nothing to compare it to at this point, I'm not ready to annoint Smart Strike as a sire of sires (YET.) I used Tenpins as an example because he is also out of a Deputy Minister mare (as Curlin is.) Obviously, Curlin's book will be filled with nothing but the best of mares and he'll have every chance at proving his worth as a sire (whereas Tenpins probably doesn't), but just because Smart Strike is a great sire, that doesn't mean that his sons will be. Sorry, just trying to look at it from another viewpoint.

I understand it, since there is nothing else to go by, if we want to talk hypotheticals, it's as good a place as any to start.

I predict Tenpins will be an okay sire.

Is it weird that Heart's Delight has only one other registered foal and none to have raced, though she was born in 1996?

Seems strange to me. Wonder if she had issues breeding in the past?
