I know I'm a little late on this but
Big Brown is an absolute monster, but everyone already knew that from his maiden win at the Spa. What was so impressive about his win at GP was that he was never asked to run, and was actually held back down the stretch. They don't want him running too hard to save something in the tank and for fear of injury. When the horse broke his maiden, he ran too hard. And 21.20 is still very fast for a quarter mile workout even though at last year's Keeneland sale, the track was playing extremely fast. I think that the fastest quarter mile was 20 3/5ths at that sale if I remember correctly, which was a new world record. However, at a sale where the track is playing a little more fair, anything under 21 and 3/5ths is considered to be very fast. I'm glad this one made it back to the track, and also Zada Belle. Now if Gilchrist could only get Indyanne straight, and a certain trainer could get his monster to the races...that would be great! Also would like to see Magnificience come back. |

He wasn't ever asked to run, and he had more in the tank. Certaintly he wasn't idling along, but the jockey was holding him back down the stretch. The horse could have given him a lot more. I don't think anyone would argue with that. This horse is a monster. My record in these things on this board speak for itself. I have never been wrong about a horse's talent on this board. Every horse that I have said was extremely talented off their maiden win has gone on to be multiple stakes winners except for Indyanne and Zada Belle. Hopefully, both will have their chance. |

Here are horses that I have put up on the board that I picked off of their maiden wins to be good/great horses.
Lady Joanne Welcome Inn (stakes winner) Day Pass (stakes winner) Rags to Riches (only had one reply to that post)(said she was the best filly that I had ever seen off maiden win) Curlin(said that he was one of the best horses that I had ever seen off maiden win) Ravel Zada Belle Indyanne You can find all of this information in various posts throughout the years. I haven't given out that many. Just a few. I don't like to give the horses out anymore because my knowledge in this area isn't appreciated. Now, I only throw one out there every once in awhile. Big Brown=monster. Now watch it all unfold in the next couple of months. Call me a novice all you want to. Just because you say it, doesn't mean it's true. I'm not the one that was completely wrong about Lawyer Ron. I have never been wrong like that about a horse's talent. Winning particular races...yes. But, not with overall talent. |

Any idiot can see a horse run a fast race and declare " this is a good horse. " That kind of insight is useless.

Please let us know how much faster a colt runs when whipped slashed and urged? A tired horse can be urged to extend himself for a few more yards beyond his mental and physical make up a fresh colt loaded with run isnt going to sprout wings because some yahoo jock cracks him on the ass or finishes him out.. Perhap you and or your connections should review less Xrays and watch more race replays.... |

It's always funny to hear this stuff. What's even funnier is when you hear it from the same nitwits who mistakenly thought that about Bernardini, even though they were repeatedly told they were wrong, only to find out he did in fact run as fast as he could in all his races. What it really shows is how little they really pay attention to everyday racing where you constantly see horses that appear to be being restrained and yet have nothing when they are theoretically asked to run. |

Were there a lot of people that were NOT impressed by Curlin's debut?
This is crazy. I am pretty sure that I thought Discreet Cat was going to be good after his debut too. Same with Artie Schiller. When horses run really fast, you can sometimes recognize that they did so? Congratulations. Why do you insist on making every thread you participate in about you and your "record?" It is really tiresome and no longer even entertaining. |

And since BTW was kind enough to point out a past midnight blunder by myself last night - I will single him out for being dumb enough to take KyRim's word that Big Brown was actually "never asked to run" and "hard held through the stretch" in his under-tack preview. KYRIM, in her wisdom, thinks she has complete deniability to say something like that because video of said workout is no longer available on the Keeneland website or anywhere else on the internet - and who around here really is going to remember the drill? It's too bad I had notes on his work, and it's too bad TVG showed the '07 Kee April under-tack preview last year, and it's too bad I taped it and still haven't recorded over it - thus meaning I can still watch it again and make sure I wasn't tripping when I was taking notes. BTW's point is correct - however he was wrong to take KyRim at her word on this. |

The Keeneland previews are available to me because I have a video from the sale. They give them out in DVD form. However, I have not looked at it in awhile. Now, I'm confused about what your point is or BTW's point is... What are ya'll's points exactly? Please pull up the post back up in this thread where I said the things that you thought I said about his workout video. Last edited by kentuckyrosesinmay : 03-07-2008 at 04:46 PM. |
