All I heard from folks I know is that he is a real looker, who has not yet been tested at any distance. A good 1f doesn't even mean he'll be very good at 6f. They said he could be anything from nothing to great, but Pletcher was definitely feeling th epressure to prove the owners right.

pressure be dammed. the horse doesn't care what he went for, and really, no one else should except the rich guys' accountants. we all know price means nothing in the end, except maybe for how big an ego the winning bidder possesses. not like these horses abilities and talent rises exponentially with the purchase price.

You can actually tell alot about a horse's ability from watching them work an 1/8th of a mile. The time of the work is not the most important thing. The way the horse moves is what really matters.

The Green Monkey can definitely run. I don't know if he's a stakes horse or anything like that. But as long as he stays sound, he should be able to break his maiden pretty quickly.

His work was phenomenal, but I have seen a few colts that I like better than him...an Orientate, a Red Bullet, a Touch Gold, and an Indian Charlie. I will be very surprised if The Green Monkey lives up to his expectations though as they are probably almost impossible to achieve by any horse. I think he will be a great sprinter/miler, but he is probably not a route-type horse IMO.

I dont know why people keep saying about his expectations. I dont get it. Just because he cost some money doesnt mean you have to put lofty expectations on him. It is just like a 1st round draft pick in the NBA. Darko was taken 2nd before Wade. Detroit spent millions on him and he didnt pan out. No big deal at all. My only expectation of this horse is to see him race. I dont care if he doesnt win a race, or goes undefeated. I just want to see him race.

I haven't put lofty expectations on him, but I'm sure everyone else has. I don't care what a horse cost the owners. If he can run, then he can run. If he can't, then he can't. It is as simple as that. The horse doesn't know what his price tag was or what his odds are. None of that stuff matters to me because the horse doesn't have an opinion about it.

The Green Monkey can run. He's in my top five horses that I liked at the sales this year. He will definitely win a race as long as he stays sound. I don't expect him to be a world beater as hardly any horses are, but I do predict that he will definitely prove himself to be a nice, classy racehorse.

In my opinion, a nice rachorse is a horse that goes out on the track, gives it his all, and wins races whether they be stakes, allowances, or claiming. They don't have to be a stakes quality horse for me to consider them a nice horse.

But ... WHY do you want to see him race?

Do you just like seeing all thoroughbreds race ... or do you want to see him race because of the money? And isn't that the exact same reason why everyone else wants to see him race?

I just want to see him race. I love watching all thoroughbreds race. I get excited when Hoosier runs live. I love to watch the baby's race. My interest in the horse is not money, this is the horse (along with 7 others) than I have picked to watch as 2 year olds. Then I can see them develop into a 3 year old etc etc. To me, that is much more fun than wagering.

The horse gets his own article each time he works. Ridiculous.

That's a very commendable and healthy perspective.
