This is why baseball is a joke compared to football. What is their payroll now, over $200 million? Double every team in baseball.

They should have gotten a pitcher anyway. Not sure why they needed a bat with all the talent they have when healthy.

They also got Lidle...so a pitcher and an allstar outfielder for 4 minor league players...not bad!

Ok. Then a "real" pitcher. If you have a 4.75 ERA in the NL you aren't exactly going anywhere in the AL.

I agree totally, wait to Lidle has to face the Red Sox, White Sox and Tigers. That 4.75 ERA is going Up Up Up.

Abreui is a fantastic player though and I think he'll be the next superstar in NY. Whether thats enough for them to make the playoffs remains to be seen. Me thinks not!

Above average in the NL this year isnt necessarily going to translate to success in the AL. And he isnt exactly pitching shutouts or anything close to that. Hes a good pitcher but lets not get carried away. Probably the 4th or
5th best starter on the Yankees and they are not exactly known for strong starting pitching.

I agree he's not Cy Young...but he will take a spot in their rotation which is slowly looking pretty decent. You get a starting pitcher and an allstar for 4 minor leaguers at this stage of the season...that's a good deal!

He is a SOLID #3, and now days, there are barely solid #2's in the league
